50,000 baht reward for information of missing girl

BANGKOK: -- A 50,000-baht reward has been offered by the State Railway of Thailand for anyone who can give information which will lead to the finding of a 13-year old girl who reportedly went missing while travelling on a Bangkok-bound train on early Sunday morning.

The girl, identified only as Nong Gaem, was reported by her family to have gone missing between 3-4 am Sunday morning as the Surat Thani-Bangkok train was travelling through Petchaburi province.

SRT governor Prapat Chongsa-nguan said Monday that besides the reward he said he had sought help from the local police to help trace the girl.

SRT officials have examined the video footages from surveillance cameras installed at all the stations that the train passed through but there has no sign of the girl, he said, adding that officials also scoured both sides of the track in Petchaburi and they found nothing.

In the immediate future, Mr Prapat said CCTV cameras would be installed in about 50 rapid and express trains to step up security for the passengers. But all new trains will be equipped with the cameras, he added.

News earlier today reported police apprehended a guy who works in the cargo area of the train. He has been accused of taking the girl from her room, abusing and strangling her, then pushing the body out of the window of the train. I guess that means a body was also found. Very sad story.

From what my gF told me she was travelling with her sister in a sleeper carriage, then the train stopped unexpectedly not at a station and there was a power outage. When power was restored and the train got moving again her sister discovered that she was missing from her bed.

Very disturbing, I hope the girl is found ok. In the circumstance it sounds like someone took advantage of an opportunity.

Reads like an Agatha Christie mystery novel. Call Hercule Poirot, at once.

p.s. I wonder why the door wasn't locked from the inside. I keep my door locked at night on the Bangkok - Chiang Mai route.

Absolutely horrible.

I wonder if it was just him or if other crew were complicit since the porter assigned to that car would have known which berth she had and should have been keeping watch on the car. I hope they punish anyone even remotely involved.

Missing teen 'still alive'

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL who was reported by her family to have gone missing while taking a train ride early on Sunday is still alive, police have said.

Colonel Pirat Nasomwas, superintendent of Railway Police Command 3, yesterday disclosed that a food vendor in Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Hua Hin saw the girl - identified only as "Kaem" - eating at his business at 2pm on Sunday.

"The food vendor said the girl was accompanied by an older boy who has long hair," Pirat said.

Pirat said the vendor provided the information after seeing photos of Kaem.

Her disappearance has become big news, with police quickly summoning for questioning four cleaners who work on the train she travelled on.

The State Railway of Thailand has offered Bt50,000 to anyone who can help locate her.

Kaem boarded a Bangkok-bound train in Surat Thani on Saturday. She was travelling with two sisters, one younger and one older, and the latter's boyfriend. The oldest of the three siblings is 22.

"We got on the train to head back to our home in Nonthaburi," the oldest sister said, adding that she fell asleep around 2am on Sunday and when she woke up at 4.30am, she could not find Kaem.

She said she looked throughout the train for Kaem before alighting at Bang Sue Train Station and arriving at Noppawong Police Station at around 6.30am.

Based on the sister's information, police have managed to narrow the scope of the search.

"Given the time frame, we can guess that Kaem might have disappeared around the time the train was in Prachuap Khiri Khan," said Pol Lt-Colonel Songklod Pattanawaraporn, chief investigator at Noppawong Police Station.

With the latest information, police are seeking video from security cameras in Hua Hin in the hope of spotting Kaem.

If the latest news is correct and she is alive then somebody owes this guy an apology.

This is a right royal mess, is she really alive or sadly dead ?

Just how did such diverse stories get out, the police had supposedly arrested someone who had confessed then they said she was alive ? He doesn't appear to have been triumphantly paraded with the mandatory finger pointing.

If there was any arrest why did someone confess to a crime he didn't commit unless he has a mental problem or was it the BIB at their investigative best ?

Lots of questions, how about proper answers ?

"raping her and dumping her body through the window of the compartment the girl was staying."

Raped and killed her in the compartment that had her two sisters and sister's BF sleeping in it? Doesn't sound right. Sounds like he is protecting accomplices by not saying where the rape actually occurred.

They were in separate sleeping rooms I believe the story.. but who knows.

Is it really that difficult for the Kingdom of Thailand to muster together a competent police force with at least some semblance of professionalism?

It seems to me they are worse than useless at anything except arresting thousands of drug offenders and hatless motorbike riders.

Really Thailand needs to redress this huge police problem.

Can we also start seeing some proper punishment of people abusing, raping and murdering children? It is the saddest thing.

There is only one penalty that fits crimes like these and that is the death penalty. Forget about lethal injections- these bastards should be hung and tortured and then let the victims family have a turn before they are left to endure a slow and agonizing death !

How horribly sad. While natural for many to try to blame so many things for this, there is only one person to blame (assuming nobody else was involved in the crime). Thankfully the number of sick individuals in this world are few compared to those who couldn't imagine ever doing something remotely close to this regardless if abused as a child themselves, intoxicated or there is a lack of security or they stumble upon a young teen without a guardian in direct sight be it in a bathroom, in a sleep compartment of a train, in a park or at school.

Such a horrific senseless death and one of the many that happen and will continue to happen as long as there are other humans ... unless we want to go so far in removing freedoms as to agree to having people's DNA adjusted while in the womb so we are all conforming clones.

How very sad , just read on the Bangkok Post that she was raped and murdered and then threw out of the train window, by an employee who had been taking drugs and drinking beer,

I cannot imagine what this poor girl went through and how her family are feeling at this very moment, words fail me.

R.I.P.

A senseless and pointless killing ....

This is very sad, but speaks volumes about the Thai men who can not control their sex drive, and why almost always a young girl that they assault and kill. Is it just me or does it appear to be worst here. From what I hear and see there is plenty of girls making a living by providing a solution to there sex drive, and the Thai on Thai price is below Farang price.

I have no mercy for these animals and the more painful the punishment the better !!

The family reported her missing than the police announced an arrest and confession.

Next the family were told she was alive and seen munching on noodles with a young male companion then they are told her body has been found.

Complete and utter incompetence but will anyone give a damn ?

How depressing is todays news ? 1 x girl raped by 2 x scum in a tattoo shop, 1 x defenceless little boy killed by his own father and 1 x young teenage girl raped, killed and thrown out of a train window. Is the world becoming more violent or just the reporting getting better ? I believe that the death penalty is still applicable in Thailand, but I seldom hear of it being used. Maybe I just don't read enough local news but surely the death penalty is a viablepenalty in Thailand for these such crimes ?
