Are Immigration on a go slow

Featured Replies

Just a quick question i guess - HR last in May went to immigration (Phuket) to renew my extension based on employment. Got my under consideration stamp until July 8th - today. The lady from HR went back yesterday with my passport to get the remainder of the year extension. Arrived and was told paperwork still not back from Bangkok and to try again on Wednesday. She also informed me the last case with a foreigner from our company went the paperwork was 2 weeks late coming back form Bangkok. This is my second yearly extension btw.

My question is is this normal for this to happen. I also have realized that i am on overstay technically as of tomorrow but she told me not to worry as its immigration problem as they are too slow.

Any comments or advice?

I think they are sent to the regional office in Hat Yai not Bangkok.

There could be many reasons for them being late. I don't think it is just a slow down.

I would thought immigration would have given a 7 day or more extension to cover you until final approval arrives. Guess Phuket immigration is not authorized for immediate approval? In Chiang Mai they do not need to send to Bangkok. I would question that immigration will allow you an overstay while pending approval. For the first several years here, Chiang Mai did have to send to Bangkok approval for work extensions and they always gave a short extension, usually 30 days, while pending final approval from Bangkok to cover the time.

I have asked HR when she goes tomorrow not too leave without my passport being up to date and not on overstay - whether or not its only 7 days extension or whatever.

I have had this several times, but always received an additional 'under consideration' stamp.

The under consideration period does not end until the extension is either granted or denied. The date on the stamp is just a report back date. Many offices do not do a new report back date if the approval is late getting done.

You are not on overstay.

How long was your late? I emailed Hr and asked them to sort it out in the morning so i will see what she comes back with. I will say in fairness to the HR lady she normally handles this stuff very well.

I can recall Phuket being reported as not doing another stamp. Don't worry about it. You are not on overstay.

Sorry, no idea and I'm on a new passport now. I do know this happened to me a few times over 10 extensions or so, nothing to worry about. I do recall it never took more than 1 month extra, so if by then you have not heard back I'd start to panic :)
