My company insisted I be there. There were only about 4 people there doing the same thing at the single desk handling it. It took all day! I arrived at about 9:00 am and didn't get out of there until past 3:00. It was not a fun experience at all!

When I had to leave the country, I took both passports with me to Suvarnabhumi and imm transferred my multiple re-entry permit to my new passport, for free, but not my visa/ext. I was the only one so there was no wait, but they took their sweet time doing the transfer - almost missed my flight!

Went to CW and the lady from HR was already there. She took me to a section at imm, gave me my 2 passports and a bunch of documents, pointed at a male official sitting at a desk in a back corner, and told me to take the stuff to him. He was talking to someone else for a bit and then took my passports and documents. He never even looked at my documents but checked the passports. The visa and other stamps had already been transferred to the new passport. While he was looking at the stamps, he was mumbling something and then suddenly peered at something and said something to the effect of "My gosh, what's this" and then said something about a date in January, giving me an (obligatory?) scare. However, after further perusal, he satisfied himself that everything was in order, signed his name or initials at several places on the stamps and gave the passports back to me and I was done.

When you're standing there at an official's desk, it seems like a long time, but it actually took a minute or less and then I was out. BTW, altho I didn't look at the documents, I think they were a form requesting the stamp transfers, the letter from the embassy, and copies of the passports.

The bottom line is that it seemed like I had to hand the passports in person to the official in charge before he would sign off on the transfers.
