So Much Emphesis On The Negative Aspect Of Bkk/thai Women

Featured Replies

I do give you kudos for using “Thai women” instead of “Thai girl” In some areas you respect women more than 50% of the posters here.

I realize that the language can have different meanings to people living in different areas, but I thought it was almost universal that "girl" is a totally acceptable substitution for "lady" in many circumstances, and certainly in cases where a romantic relationship is involved. Are you saying that if a man calls a woman he's romantically involved with his "girlfriend" rather than "lady friend", that he's being disrespectful? Does the same apply to women? All women I know would say "boyfriend" rather than "man friend". If anything "lady friend" or "man friend" would tend to indicate a platonic relationship I would think. Terms like "my girl" or "my boy" are also commonly used in referring to one's partner.

I often use the terms "woman", "lady", and "girl" interchangeably when talking about some woman, and I certainly don't mean any disrespect at all to women when I use "girl" sometimes. I've never hear anyone ever suggest before that it was being disrespectful, so I'd be interested to know where you're from so if I ever meet people from your part of the world I'll know to try to use the "proper" term so as to not offend.

I picked up on this and have just started a new topic in this section of the forum to avoid going off topic here. I have a genuine curiousity on how this would be offensive to some.

I was raised by an unfaithful mother, engaged to an unfaithful fiancee (hence why I did not marry), and 6 mo ago had a girl choose her career over me (I have no desire to move to DC as I am financially stable).

I guess you could say I've grown cautious...
