how many days to do change type of visa at chaengwattana

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

I was accepted to do my masters degree at chiang mai university and need to get an education visa. I am currently on my second tourist visa and will go to CM immigration tomorrow, to extend that for another 30 days. So i will have enough days left on my visa to be able to do the change type of visa in bangkok.

As preparation classes are starting next week already, i was hoping to get that visa-process done as quickly as possible, so that I wouldnt miss too much... especially not the first days, when everyone gets to know each other....

the secretary at cmu said that it shouldnt be any problem, as many students have successfully done it before. my faculty prepared all the papers (they said) and i have proof that i have paid my tuition fees....

my plan was to fly to bangkok next wednesday/thursday morning (to don mueng) and go straight to chaengwattana from there...

does anyone have experience with this process and immigration department 1? how many days will it take? can i go and pick up the next day, or does it take longer? will i have to proof sufficient funds and how? any problems that i am likely to encounter? can anyone recommend a place to stay nearby?

Sorry, for all those questions, but i would like to do it right the first time... ;)

Thank you and have a great day!

You must have at least 15 days remaining on your permit to stay do a change of visa status (TM86 form).

In the past they were done while you waited as long as you had all the required documents

I have seen no recent reports for doing a change for visa status to a non immigrant visa entry based upon going to school.

For others there have been several reports of them telling people to come back in two weeks to get the visa/entry stamps.
