This is world news now. Thailand needs to take this problem very seriously. Rape is a Thai teenagers sexual initiation "tradition" beacuse most girls never will denounce it, or tell about with anybody. Many Thai women I met told me about their own experiences with rape, after I insisted in talk about it. Many were married with the rapist, or got pregnant because it. Thailand hide sexual content on TV, but now more than ever, pornography is show on free sites on the internet, even in youtube, and kids knows about....and tablets are in its hands. Some sites are even showing children pornography, rapes, and everything you can imagine and not. That is disturbing even for adults. I cannot imagine what its done to kids minds and perception of sex and women, specially in a country with sexuality is punished and promoted at the same time, and in the wrong way. The Asian way. This problem is not just a Thai problem, is getting very serious from Japan to Indonesia and the Philipines. India is the #1 in rapes and sexual abuse, and punishments too light for so serious crime. Sexual crimes got more common after online chat, date sites, and free pornography. I had very close family experiences with this problem, and I am very relief that my 2 daughters are grown women now, and not young girls anymore.

If you have kids, be aware about this problem, before too late.,,and not only in Asia.

First of all, RAPE IS NOT a sexual act. It is an act of violence using a sexual act as a weapon. What was aroused was this poor excuse for a human's anti social personality and his desire to do harm. That is why the suggestion for castration is not a viable solution since anti social scum like him would still commit sexual-like violent acts without the use of his sex organ...such as mutilation, beatings, stabbings, etc. Institutionalization is the only way treat the offender since the success rate of rehabilitating sexual offenders is extremely low.

If one is to look at the statistics concerning sexual predators, these acts start at a much younger age than 22. Many times they include torturing animals, violent behaviors towards others, and sexual violations against younger vulnerable family members, neighbors or classmates. Unfortunately either these acts go unreported since the victim is too embarrassed to report it, or the victim has been threatened with physical harm if the act is reported. In many cases the family minimizes the act and would rather save face than take actions to prevent it from happening again.

Probably the best way to address this matter is through public education for adults and by educating children at a very young age to be aware of the signs of someone like this, thus reducing the stigma of reporting these violations when they occur, no matter how young the perpetrator is.

Good advice in principle but the problems with using too much awareness and beware fear tactics with children is that this could have a reverse affect where society turns paranoid as has happened in the UK and the States, where now women consider every male as a possible paedophile, child molester, rapist and sexual predator just waiting for an opportunity to strike vulnerable children and young women.

Going back to my childhood, I would often sleep in the same bed as my grandparents when I stayed with them if I became scared of the dark, would sit on my uncle’s lap and he would hug and kiss me on the cheek and this was considered absolutely normal, but I guess these days my uncle could be considered as a child molester and I could under UK law take him to court with allegations that he sexually abused me as a child. If one of my best friend’s dad’s offered to take us on an outing my parents never warned me with, be careful that guy may touch you. As a matter of fact I had not heard of the term paedophile until 15 years ago.

I still believe in the what adults used to tell me back in my day; beware of strangers and never go off with strangers and tell your parents if anyone does anything inappropriate and that is my opinion is as far as this issue should go otherwise we are in danger of creating even more frightened ultra paranoid younger generations of people within societies where political correctness and what is considered as inappropriate behaviour has gone to the extremes. Men in many cases are afraid to approach children on the streets if a child appears lost or in distress in fear of being accused of a sex crime. Even on facebook I would be wary of having any children not closely related to me on my friends list as I could be accused of trying to groom them. It has become that paranoid and that bad today. Has it now come to the level where men are wary of cuddling and kissing children in case they are perceived has having paedophile tendencies?

Somewhere along the line there has to be an equal common sense balance as to how we make our kids aware of the dangers in society without installing the fear of God into them, fear mongering and causing them to have an intense mistrust of everyone around them.

BANGKOK, July 9 -- Police conducted a re-enactment of the rape of a 13-year-old girl train passenger early this morning and planned to seek a longer detention of the suspect.

Police brought Wanchai Saengkhao, the 22-year-old suspect, to the re-enactment at Wang Pong train station in Pran Buri district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

It was done on a train car to cover the crime from the stage of the suspect turning off sleeper car lights while the train was passing Thap Sakae station in Prachuap Khiri Khan, to the stages of the man strangling the victim, closing her mouth with a pillow, hitting her stomach to make her unconscious, raping her, and throwing her clothing away and then her body out of the train while it was passing Wang Pong station.

The suspect then stole the victim's Apple iPad tablet computer and mobile iPhone for resale in Bangkok.

The suspect, a train cleaner, said he had taken three speed pills and drunk beer with friends before the rape.

It was reported that the suspect showed repentance and fear during the re-enactment as crowds of people arrived at Pran Buri police station.

The brutal rape prompted many people to demand the death penalty for him.

Col Winthai Suvaree, spokesman of the National Council for Peace and Order, said NCPO chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha ordered the Royal Thai Police to handle the case to its best ability. (MCOT online news)

I don't get the impression that readers are more primitive but are merely expressing deep feelings about how they would feel if the same thing happened to one of their family or even someone they knew. Public disgust with this creature and his actions is bound to be seen by some as primitive (by your definition).

I know how incidents like this bring out the frustrations with the so-called justice system.

What would your reaction be to the news that your son or daughter had been violently assaulted then murdered and their naked body thrown from a train like a bag of garbage. Think about that!

Once more we read of an unspeakable act against one of the most defenseless members of our society, an all too often tale of selfish barbarity. Some very relevant comments and opinions from jaltsc, it is indeed less to do with sex and more to do with violence, domination and a perceived assertion of superiority by a dysfunctional mind.

Sadly there will never be a straight forward answer to this kind of crime, the "Hang him high" brigade have a point. If the perp is beyond rehabilitation then there is a case for dispatching him to the after life. It flies in the face of what I believed for years, that a civilized society should not execute criminals, I would now find that impossible to make a case for with the family of a victim. I now believe that there is a "humane" way to carry out the ultimate sentence, I know that will in itself be a contradiction to some people but where the circumstances surrounding a crime are so horrifying, then I now accept the ultimate price is a fair one for a serious criminal to pay, if it is only for the protection of society then that on it's own is enough.

Be it an injection in the arm, a sizable electric shock, or a gas chamber then it can be done, it may not be to everyone's liking but I imagine the victims families would find it acceptable...

May I suggest,a Mexican necktie party,and for those of you who have been to one,it is a hanging were the party to be hanged is placed with the noose over a support( tree limb),his hands or feet are not bound and he is hailed up so his feet are off the ground and so he can hold the rope untell he gets so tired that he finely lets go of the rope and strangles. It is a natural biological and neurological reaction (and a common way of dealing wit people like this until very recently in our history as the animal we call homosapian). We are animals, albeit with a higher consciousness than most.

I think this criminal should be tithed to the victim's family for the rest of his life - to serve them, to earn and give the money to the family and be castrated so his sub-human bloodline cannot continue. He should be denied all the worldly things this young girl will never experience - love, marriage, her own children/family. If he contravenes any of the points of this type of 'sentence' then Bangkok Hilton without passing GO! Both the girl's and the family's experience should be considered the ultimate priority, however one reason many country's have banned the death penalty is the possibility of rehabilitation, even if it is unlikely.

Low intelligence and an arrogant attitude in a society of extreme male chauvinism, coupled with drugs which can strip away

any remaining sensibilities, there you have the perfect conscience free violent predator.

If incarcerated for fifteen years or so with other prisoners that find him attractive from behind, he may learn what if feels like to be on the other side of the equation.
