Purging nuts planting will be promoted in 7,000 communities

The Science and Technology Ministry will promote the production of bio-diesel from purging nuts under the sufficiency economy theory in 7,000 communities across the country.

Caretaker Minister Prawit Rattanapian (ประวิช รัตนเพียร) said purging nuts will be grown in areas which have potential and equipment to use them to produce bio-diesel. Each community should be able to produce 200-300 litres of bio-diesel per day and altogether the alternative fuel from these 7,000 communities should help cut oil imports by one million litres per day, Mr. Prawit said.

He said the ministry will not rush to promote large-scale purging nuts plantations but gradually expand planting areas along with helping communities to be able to rely on themselves.

He added that the ministry also had plans to promote bio-diesel from different other crops.
