Question About Non-O Expiration Date

Featured Replies

Hello all, I've tried to search for an answer to my question but didn't get any good results.

I'm staying in Thailand on a Non-O multiple entry visa (Thai wife and 2 kids). My question is about the expiration date of my visa.

The visa says "Enter Before 10 Dec 2014," But my actual first date of entry was 21 Feb 2014. I travel a lot for my business and each time I've had no problems entering and get the 90-day stamp in my passport.

So when does the visa actually expire? Is it based on the date on the visa (10 Dec 2014) or my first date of entry (21 Feb 2014)?

Also, given all the recent discussion of visa issues, I am a bit concerned about getting an extension. I've read that immigration really prefers one to extend a visa that has already been granted. However, we're planning to go back to the US in October or November and stay for about 3 months. If my visa expires in December, then I will just have to get a new Non-O visa from the Thai Embassy in DC. But if it expires in February, then I can come back to Thailand and do the extension here.

I'm just a little concerned about having problems with back-to-back Non-O visas. I also previously had a Non-O multiple entry in 2012 and I let it lapse because we went to the US for about a year. Although it's pretty clear for me to document having family here (we have property, a joint bank account, etc.).

Does anyone have any input or advice?

Your visa expires on the enter before date 10 Dec 2014. The date of first entry is not relevant to anything except deciding when you have to leave, 90 days later.

There should not be a problem with getting repeated non-Imm O visas

The one year validity of your visa started on the date it was issued. You can use your via up December 10th and get another entry.

You can apply for an extension of stay at immigration during the last 30 days of any 90 day entry your visa allows. You don't have to wait for your visa to expire because you are extending your permit to stay not your visa.

Thanks for the advice. Since we're going back to the US in Oct/Nov, I'll plan to apply for a new visa at the Thai Embassy while I am there.
