A lot of scuttle butt going round, but no real direction,

Q. will it happen?

Q. will it be 30% -50% co payment pay as you go? or

Sorry no money go away and die quietly.

Q. a good national health policy ripped apart? ( needs work! )

Those that can not afford health insurance and the poor are the one's that are the target here,

I humbly ask the MODS to leave this post as its intention, a social question as it is not politically motivated,??? and not move too health forum.

cheers

It will depend on whether the supporters on the yellow side (of whom there are a good number in the MoPH/NHSO) can resist the conservative group who would like to water the scheme down, and on their respective influence with government. If the scheme should come under attack then it would certainly show that the recent changes were not just about corruption.

You seem to be labouring under the misunderstanding that the Thai National Health Service did not exist before the Bht30 scheme was introduce.... As you put it earlier - Do your homework.... mate!

Large sections of the population had no health care coverage before universal healthcare coverage (UHC) came with the 30 baht project. It is true that Thailand had made progress since the 1970s in creating a system of public hospitals and clinics that stretched right down to the sub-district level, but the then existing Medical Welfare Scheme for the poor and a low cost-voluntary health card were ineffective in meeting the healthcare needs of those who lacked coverage. The 30 baht reforms introduced in 2001/02 had a real impact that is beginning to be reflected in measurable outcomes.

(For all the 'I've done my research' remarks, I don't get the sense that many on TVF read this material.)

The WHO and the Rockefeller Foundation were both keen that the lessons learned in Thailand about the feasibility of UHC (in what in 2002 was a lower middle income country) should be passed on to other aspiring UHC countries. There is a programme called Cap UC that supports visiting delegations with the hope of building capacity in neighbouring countries, and Thailand provides the secretariat for the ASEAN +3 UHC network, which is trying to support health care system development and transition to UHC in countries like Vietnam and Indonesia.

It would indeed be a crying shame if all this came to nought.

It will not come to naught - The rumours of an end to the Bht30 health care scheme are coming from Thaksin supporters.
