I'm hoping someone can help straighten a few things out for me.

I've been in Thailand 15 years now. the 1st few years I invested in a business for my wife and just did the 90 day triple entry thing. as was the recommended visa at the time.

after the birth of my son I went on to a non O visa, which was the easiest visa I've ever had to deal with here.

then upon needing a work permit for a new business venture, I switched to a Non B visa,

Then last year as I was intending to sell my business with imminent offers, at the same time my accountant went missing forcing me to overstay best part of a month, it seemed easier to switch again from a B visa to an 'ED' visa.

Partly paranoia about them clamping down on Ed visa and partly that I may move area soon to a different part of Thailand which will screw up the paperwork from the school. and partlythat dont know what my plans are, maybe I pack up and ship out soon for a while anyway so I not sure I want to re enrol for another year Ed visa as I see problems on the horizon.

so I am thinking the best way for me is to go back to the Non O visa. HOWEVER, my ex wife claims to have lost my sons birth certificate, she also claims that to get it re issued means she would have to go to Samui (where he was born) personally but that she is too busy to go, she can not do it locally (phuket), nor sign a power of attorney to anyone, nor can I do it for her even though my name is on the Birth certificate

Can any one advise if this is true and if there is anyway I can get this certificate re issued . without the troubles suggested by the EX.... or what other Visa options may be available to me...it seems going back to tourist is out after reading the lastest TV on border runners..

Starters is that you need to file a police report first of the birth certificate being lost.

Than you can take it to the amphur and see what they can do. Not sure it must be the amphur that issued it, but if it is in most cases a power of attorney should be possible.

Any amphur should be able to tell you what you can do to get a new birth certificate.
