BANGKOK, July 17 -- Authorities are speeding up the prosecution of red shirt protest leaders, including those suspected of acts of terrorism during the tenure of the Abhisit Vejjajiva government.

Bangkok's Criminal Court today heard plaintiff's witnesses in the case in which 21 red shirt leaders including Veerakarn Musikapong were accused of terrorism and defiance of an executive decree on public administration in emergency situations to pressure former prime minister Abhisit to dissolve the House from Feb 28 to May 20, 2010.

Mr Veerakarn and key red shirt leaders including Jatuporn Prompan, Dr Weng Tojirakarn and Korkaew Pikulthong were present at the court.

This morning police brought another red shirt activist Somsak Boonngam-anong, locally known as "Bor Kor Lai Jud" (Polka Dot Editor), to the military court in Bangkok to seek another extended period of detention from July 17 to 19.

He was charged with failing to report to the National Council for Peace and Order and violating Section 116 of the Criminal Code and as well as the Computer Act.

The court released him on bail.

In another case, red shirt guard leader Aree Krainara met police at the Crime Suppression Division to deny the allegation that he was planned a grenade attack against People's Democratic Reform Committee demonstrators on Bangkok's Ratchadamri Road in February.

Mr Aree filed a defamation complaint against an arrested M-79 grenade attack suspect who made an allegation implicating him and against three newspapers that reported the allegation. (MCOT online news)

Wonder if they will ask if they can go to Thaksin's party first..... seeing as the Junta are stupid enough to trust Yingluck to go.

Great, excellent news. No more will this rabble hold Thailand as a hostage!!

It seems the Junta is distinguishing the difference of right to protest, civil disobedience, the right to protect, and terrorism.

There again, a good hair cut and saffron suit...

Being one who was affected by the closing of the airports I am waiting for that trial to go. It has been a while!

So was I.

But in the end, it was worth it to rid the country of the scourge of the Shinawatras and the red low lifes.

It is the small pleasures in life that bring a smile to my face. This OP is one of them.

They really need to build a jail just to house the UDD leaders and their violent supporters.

"red shirt guard leader Aree Krainara met police at the Crime Suppression Division to deny the allegation"

The amount of denying these people do would make O.J Simpson proud. Maybe Arre needs to employ the PTP minister for denying, Pongthep Nopparit.

When they deny that usually means it is true. A good one is the PWO denied that any rice was missing but the one that holds a special place in my heart was said on the 24th of June, 2011 - "The Pheu Thai Party denied it has a policy to give amnesty to fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra"

Keep denying Aree. You are traveling a very very well worn path by your predecessors. The path usually finishes in prison.

Wonder if they will ask if they can go to Thaksin's party first..... seeing as the Junta are stupid enough to trust Yingluck to go.

Maybe they are hoping she will go quietly - and not come back?

we can only hope that justice shows its face in all this and that these gutless mongrels get whats coming to them.

Good.

I think The Camel Jockey is unlikely to return for sometime, although if he does it will be an interesting welcoming party.

At long last! The Red tide of history is being turned

Yes, now comes the brown smelly one .

Still this is progress of sorts. I wonder if the military will begin burning people alive in red oil drums like they used to. That would be real progress and never mind international opinion. The Junta should go ahead with the PAD plan of closing down the country and cleaning up the place for good. Kick out ALL the Falangs ban tourism and get down to making everybody seriously happy like the good old days. We can but hope.coffee1.gif

Given the previous track record of people being prosecuted for political violence, what more evidence does one need to prove this was a politically motivated coup?

Did you think that cleaning up that mess was going to be a walk in the park? You are very very wrong there.

The red is just a thin veneer the PTP used to cover up their brown smelly doings.

It made my day when I saw the name Jatuporn Prompanthumbsup.gif on the list. thumbsup.gif

Who cares

The reality is it was a very needed coup as the government it threw out was corrupt and waving it in the face of Thailand with the attitude I am the boss you do what I say.

Less than two months and they have made more progress towards cleaning Thailand up than the PTP could have in there tenure with

Thaksin at the throttle full speed ahead.

Are we still on the subject of "prosecution of red shirt protest leaders" ?

a lot of people won't believe this from me but... Good, terrorism from any colour shirt needs to be eradicated. The law should not be colour blind and neither should PT supporters.

Did Suthep not do the same but to a much greater degree? Was he not corrupt when deputy prime minister (unelected)? And what of the charges against Abhisit (murder, I believe)? It seems that sauce for the goose is not sauce for the gander.

Are you talking about those trumped up charges the PTP made up in a desperate bid to get a free pass for Thaksin and all his cronies? Suthep and Abhist showed what they were made of when they said no deal bring on the charges.

What did Thaksin say?

Pathetic. cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif quick there goes another straw floating by you better grab it before some other Shinawatra lover gets it.clap2.gif
