geovalin
PHNOM PENH, July 17 (Bernama) -- Cambodia has achieved 80 percent border demarcation with Vietnam and 75 percent with Laos, Xinhua news agency reported. The country shares a 1,270-km border with Vietnam to the east, 540-km border with Laos to the north and northeast and a border of over 800 km with Thailand to the north and west. During a meeting with officials of Vietnam and Laos' National Assembly Nguyen Kim Khoa and Vilay Douangmany Wednesday, National Assembly president Heng Samrin said building a border of peace, cooperation and development was essential to improve living conditions for residents along the border. Heng also pledged to strengthen ties between Cambodia and the two countries for mutual benefit. The Laos and Vietnamese officials were in Phnom Penh to attend a conference on the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Triangle Development Area on Wednesday. Cambodia's border demarcation process with Thailand has progressed slowly due to border dispute and domestic political turmoil in the latter. -- BERNAMA http://www.bernama.com.my/bernama/v7/wn/newsworld.php?id=1054211
