webfact
A kindergarten kid dies in a locked school van BANGKOK: -- A four-year old boy was left to die of suffocation in a locked school van parked under the sun in the compound of Cha-uad district police station in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Monday. Police said that the kindergarten schoolboy whose name was withheld fell asleep at the back seat of the van which also carried 6-7 other kindergarten school children from their homes to the school in the morning. The van driver, Anusorn Joengrungruang, later admitted to the police that he did not notice that the victim had fallen asleep in the back seat. After he let the other children get off at the school, he drove the car to the police station for parking and then left in a motorcycle to do some business. At about noon, Anusorn said he started wondering whether he had already let the 4-year old kid out of his van. He then rushed back to the van, opened the door only to find the kid lying dead. Police said the kid died 3-4 hours ago. Anusorn admitted that he felt very sorry for not properly checking the van to make sure all the children had disembarked. The victim’s parents did not press charges against the driver but police said he would still be charged with manslaughter. Popular Post siampolee
Sadly this is a repeat of a similar incident some 10 or so months ago when yet another child was suffocated (murdered) due to the total neglect of a van driver and possibly his or her assistants. Strict new measures were to be enforced so as to ensure such a tragedy should not happen again, yet another 2 minute wonder scheme fails with tragic results. Condolences to the victims family. No parent or family should ever have to go through the agony of a funeral for their child whatever age the child may have been. Popular Post lostsoul49
This is what really pisses me off about this place. There are mechanisms in place to ensure safety, and these mechanisms are all born out of frustration after similar tragedies in the past, yet they do not get adhered to or enforced. They just wait for it to happen again where they will temporally enforce the system only for it to fall along the wayside for it to repeat itself yet again. I'm afraid this is Thainess, and it has many many flaws.
Popular Post ozsamurai
6 kids get on 6 kids get off, is that too much to bloody ask that he count to six. This kind of neglect sickens me, and is why I take my 4yo to school myself. Oz

Presumably a regular driver would see the same children everyday and would know them yet failed to notice that one hadn't got off. In a hurry to get on with his other ' business ' ?
noitom
Involuntary manslaughter or involuntary homicide. This appears "negligent" unlike the killing of the police officer on Sukhumvit by the drunk or drugged high speed driver who appeared to "drag" his victim for hundreds of meters while the victim may have still been breathing, and according to news reports, appears to have been malicious intent.

siampolee
Payboy post # 12 5000 baht fine and a suspended sentence, next. That serious? No doubt the murderer will of course throw in a few extra wai's and a bunch or two of flowers and some crocodile tears thus those actions will cleanse what might pass as the mind of the murderer of this innocent child. Why not hand the murderer over to the child's family? No doubt the end result would be a much more effective way to send a message for those who are supposed to care for children on how to carry out their duties.. Mango Bob
This is happening far to often lately. One just died in America a few days ago. How the hell do you not check your van and know who the hell got off. Make him sit in the same van for about 6 hours and lets come back and see how he feels.

Indeed your somewhat insensitive sentiments are the epitome of the Thai way of thinking. You are a callous heartless character, ye gods I'm glad you were not my parent. Children tend to leave their friends if they are asleep or they presume they will follow them. At the presumed collective ages 4-6 years old children anywhere have little or no sense of responsibility for their buddies
Popular Post Seastallion
There's something wrong here. Members have touched on aspects, but there is more to it. 1. " Anusorn Joengrungruang, later admitted to the police that he did not notice that the victim had fallen asleep in the back seat...." 2, "At about noon, Anusorn said he started wondering whether he had already let the 4-year old kid out of his van." 3. " Police said the kid died 3-4 hours ago." point 1 and 2 together.....He "started wondering" and "LET"......I infer from this that he knew he had locked the child in. Point 3....The child died only an hour after being left in a van (not a small car) in the morning sun, not midday heat? That sounds a bit quick to me. Things don't add up.
Popular Post thesetat2013
Why does this story smell of lies? Lets see! He left the kid in the van early in the morning. Not all day in the heat. The kid dies in an hour or 2 since they found him early afternoon and he died 3-4 hours previously. Also how does someone die in a van from lack of oxygen? Vans are not airtight. Another point! Doesnt anyone find it a little hard to believe this van was parked at a police station while all this happened? Nobody heard a child crying? Or screaming? Did the child suffocate in its sleep? Doubtful unless it waa from exhaust fumes from the van. Too many questions for this to be explained so easily Sent from my GT-S5310 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I have just seen one of these vans pick up a 7-8yr.old boy,the driver sat in the van while the boy had to open the sliding door with a large satchel on his back and close it behind him.surely the parents must take some responsibility even if they came out of the house and opened the van door for him. Absolute nonsense, the retard driver is responsible for making sure all are off his bus. Usual lack of responsibility that is all too common here. What a tragic, and so avoidable death. My daughter travels to school daily on a school van, but they have a supervisor that sits in the back and counts them in and out, actually they come to the door to get her. Count them on, count them off, and check for things left behind in the van, should be standard behaviour. How tragic!
