Re-enter Ranong from Kawthuang with tourist visa

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm posting this topic on behalf of my girlfriend who is in Kawthuang right now. Her nationality is Indonesian and she is 22 years old.

She's doing a trip starting in Malaysia and then Thailand. Her plan was to go from Kawthuang up north in Myanmar and then go back to Bangkok from where she has booked a flight back to Indonesia. She has now found out it is hard to travel from Kawthuang to the north and she wants to go back to Ranong.

My question is if she will have trouble getting back to Ranong? She had a free tourist visa that was valid until August 2. Is it still valid now she has left?

Her flight back from Bangkok is booked for the 27th of July. If she can't go back to Ranong is there another way to get to Bangkok?

Your GF never had a visa. She had a visa exempt entry, that has been cancelled the moment she has left and is not valid anymore.

Now, it is quite possible that Thailand Immigration will not let her back in on another visa exempt entry. She will have to pledge that to the Immigration officer, to support her case she should have the ticket printout, 10,000 Bt in cash, and be very convincing, asking to speak to the supervisor,

If that is not possible, hard or not, she will have to travel to Yangon, perhaps with a special permit from Myanmar immigration. All failing try to contact Indonesian embassy in Yangon.

Thank you paz, your reply is very helpful.

Wanted to add that from reports, Thai immigration in Ranong is not letting people leave unless they will be admitted back, so either that is the case as I hope, or the officer has been a total <deleted>.

Good luck.

Well, the officer first didn't want to let her go because he thought she wouldn't be able to get into Myanmar. But there might also have been some language problems, his English wasn't very good.

I'll advice her to call with the embassy before taking the boat.

Thanks again.

She should not have a problem entering at Ranong but she will only get a 15 day entry.

People that say that she will not be allowed entry are wrong.

OP, if your girlfriend wants to travel to Yangon, she needs a MYanmar visa in advance. There's nothing difficult about getting one and she should have gotten one back home in Indonesia. She could then have easily traveled to Yangon from Kawthoung (there's nothing hard about it). She could catch a ferry or flight to Myeik and then catch a bus/long distance taxi/train (from Dawei) onto Yangon or fly all the way from Kawthoung.

Without a visa that's not allowed.

Thanks for all the replies. She has been able to get back into Thailand. It wasn't easy, they rejected her first and treated her not nice. Only after calling with the Indonesian embassy they let her in.

Good to know that some embassy takes cares of their citizens. Thanks for sharing the story.
