The Nation and the Phuket Gazette present:

Can Zoning Save Phuket?

a seminar in English on March 27, 2004

Traffic congestion, noise, trash and other environmental problems are threatening

tourism, property development, investment and the quality of life in Phuket.

Policymakers and private sector experts will debate whether or not planning and zoning will move from talk to action soon enough to save the island from falling off the world's tourist and investment maps.

The seminar takes place at Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

The seminar is free of charge for readers of The Nation and the Phuket Gazette.

Cum on, isn't it clear that the new zoning benifits only 1 group of people? who else but the fat landlords who own the 'zoned' areas, would't it be a huge shock to find out that these people are also in local politics, and at the forefront of the zoning decisions made!

I wouldn't be a bit suprised, would you?

Remeber you read it here first....

Is this the twilight zone? I remember this topic well from the deep past- and below posts of circa 2004?

Has anything changed?

I really hope so!

What a joke, typical for here.

Bleeding from a the aorta ask for a band aid.

How about put your house in order and then discuss how to attract more tourists.

A proper newsgroup would be naming names, exposing corruption, instead it always platitudes, scared of upsetting the silent few.

Any media here is a joke.

There are already zoning laws, but, as usual, nothing is in enforced.

If new zoning, what about existing businesses that end up in the wrong zone? Do you really think they will be closed down?

Another exercise in shuffling deck-chairs on the Titanic.

Ah the answer is..... No. Seems like nothing has been done to improve the zoning laws to save Phuket. The law has been changed to make certain people more money though. I must agree with KB, is the law ever enforced? And I like your part about reshuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic! biggrin.gif
