Nokia "X" or "XL" Owners?

Featured Replies

Hey there!

Wondering if anyone in Chiang Mai (specifically), or Thailand (globally) own the Nokia "X" or "XL" mobile phones.

Reason being:

I am under the understanding that these phones are capable of using GPS facilities without internet connection:

If it is true, THAT ROCKS!

My problems/questions:

Firstly, can I download a map of Thailand in ENGLISH, or am I stuck to Thai language maps?? (Where?/ How?)

Secondly, can specific locations somehow be stored to the phone?

(example: I find a great restaraunt, so I store it (somehow) on a "HERE" map.

I understand that this is a "Window" phone, and that "Android" applications may or may not work.

But spending this kind of cash on essectially a navigatable GPS phone without the necessities of WIFI services....

to me is GOLD.

If you OWN this phone, and live in Thailand, I anxiously await your feedback!!

Lotsa love,

Treatment

Other half has one, OK but the camera is poor

I have Nokia X. I got for couple of reasons. One to get probably my last Nokia phone as this one is running Android. Also for the downloadable HERE maps, which I have not actually used at all.

The lack of Google's services and therefore not to be able to install Play store applications is bad. But if you are willing to spend a bit of time, you can actually install Google services and therefore will be able to install almost all applications from Play store to the Nokia X.

Nokia X is quite slow phone and it's not fast to switch from one application to another.

As the new Nokia X2 has hit the stores (4300 baht or similar) you might be more interested to get that instead.

Thanks for all input, guys!

The Google Play issue, the bad reviews, I found this instead:

So far, I am totally happy with it, using Navigation 6 (Route 66) app, means FREE GPS navigation.

For $6500 B I got the phone, a cleaning kit, a 16GB card, a USB portible battery, a SIM card, and a screen protector. ($6000 B without promotion)

So far so good, and I can geotag my photos for finding stuff later with the free GPS !

I know it's now too late, but in case it helps anyone else, the answer to all the questions is 'yes', and it's easy enough to hack to get the Play store.

I guess too late for the OP, but for others should be ok.

There is new software update for X-series, which introduces 'task switcher'. One of the things which were missing.

I upgraded it last night and in the morning, the phone was not using internet access, my battery was still 97% full. Quite an improvement to the previous power consumption.
