The "Leica Look" was the subject of much debate for decades without anyone actually pinpointing it.

Years back when I was shooting slide film with an SL2 and later an R6.2 I do believe I could tell "the look" wherein there was a kind of depth, a volume, a sort of 3D rendering coupled with distinctive colours that really did shout Leica but in this digital age software can pretty much replicate this look from any camera.

I don't believe there is now a definitive Leica look.

Not sure but buy a Leica M with Leica glass and then there's no doubt. Simple.

£4799 body only then the glass is the problem.

I'm going to see where Sony's going with the native E-mount lenses first. Having stuck the FE 55/1.8 on it's clear the partnership can work.

I'm still on the look out for 35 FLE mind. We shall see.

Scrub what I just said, I've just made a reasonable offer on a near new, mint 35 FLE in Oxford.

EDIT: That's it then, no more after that and I need to sell all my gear that doesn't get used which is 80% of it!

Make sure you get the box with it. Inside are additional items for attaching filters, using different lens caps etc.

Smart move looking at Oxford where the Radcliffe Hospital are excellent for kidney donor surgery.

This is the last lens purchase for at least a decade . . . . or until I find a Tri-Elmar..

MJP...which one do you want...the MATE or the WATE?

TE's are really easy to get your hands on...just some $$$

will do nicely thank you...to use a phrase from an old

Tina Turner song (Private Dancer).

Look matey...you have a great camera already, however,

if U want a Leica....then go out and buy one...nuff said,

It's only money...which is something you can't take with

you when you check out. Apols...but Leica's are Leica's,

when you want one, really want one...there are no exceptions

or substitutes that will suffice. As for the "look"...LR will help

and it don't really matter what your kit is in the end.

On a personal note...I like my primes with me Leica's;

screw zooms....or should I say pseudo zooms since the

MATE & WATE are only offering 3 focal lengths in one

body without true zoom capability...eg...Niks 14-24. So

instead of a true zoom you get a 3 in 1 @ f4...whatever;

it's only money ain't it.

Money's okay if you got loads of it. Which . . . I don't . . . but I do fancy one fancy thing at sometime in my sad, miserable, pathetic existence . . . and that thing is the Leica Summilux 35mm f/1.4 ASPH FLE . . . the new one with the floaty rear element like what Fim's got.

Now, this thing can be had used (but near new and mint) for £3000 of the British Pounds Sterling, or around £3700 new from the Red Dot purveyors.

Considering my car cost £3000 (I loathe cars mind, absolutely hate the things, bore me senseless) you can see this is a big deal.

So I want to get it right and once only. No chance of an M body. Forget it. But the A7r is just so light and nimble and wotnot I love it (plus I got it >£600 off). The only AF lens I have is the FE55/1.8 (the Otus lite). At present it goes like this:

  • Wide: Pentax-FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited (going off to the lens menders this week, has issues)
  • Normal: Sony Zeiss FE 55/1.8 (Revenge of the Samurai sharp)
  • Normal fast: Revuenon MC 55/1.2 (sharp wide open, dunno how, but it is)
  • Short tele: Pentax-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited (this is a serious bit of glass btw)
  • Tele: Tair-11A 135/2.8 (they did something to mine in the factory to make it pixie dust perfect, just lucky I guess). Also this lens is heavy which deals with shutter slap, light weight tele's are no good for this A7r thing.

The only others really are the Carl Zeiss Jena's, 50/1.8 Pancolar and MC (red ring) 135/3.5 (but too light for shutter slap).

Have considered UWA for A7r but written off until Sony issue a Zeiss native one. Too many colour cast and vignetting issues with adapted ones at present. Only the Tri-Elmar 16-18-21 works on it really and that's £4000 of the British Pounds Sterling. No way baby! Zeiss 15/2.8 works but again, big doings on the money front for something that would get rare use. There is the Samyang 14/2.8 in E-mount. Sharp, but mustache distortion and too big. If the CV15 worked on the A7r that would be perfect . . . but it don't.

I just fancy one Leica lens, but it has to be the best and be useful, so the 35 FLE is really it.

Blah, blah and blah . . .

Oh and just to add, from the pic in Post#5 it's quite obvious Leica makes much bigger baps.

There's heaps of difference between the Phase & Leica in post #5...perhaps even

the time of day and or white balance. Boobies are the same size in both 'cept the ones

in the right frame are just better lit/balanced. Which tells me that the photog using the

Phase hasn't a clue to how to use it. Your reply as to what Leica lens to get is standup

good....the 35 @ 1.4 is brilliant (asph-fle) however the Sterling/Rupiah/Dong/Yen/

$$$/ DM/ Kroner/Ruble/Won etc...etc...may not be to your liking right now. You'll

know when it hits you M....you'll know. The hell with the Aston Martin...get the lens

instead.

And if it's a chippy or chip butty for ages....then so be it!

I spend on two things. Number one is the kids. That takes care of 70% of the after tax income. The rest goes on gear leaving me with no choice but to forage through the bins of a night.

I'm going to see what 31 Limited is like when back from the menders. Then, if I finally get paid for last years work (!) I'm likely to hit the Buy Now button for the final time.

My boss has a Bentley and a custom Aston. He also has all the big Nik gear but still doesn't know what RAW means.

PS: They're definitely bigger in the right hand pic.

M....young lad....the hooters are the same size...it's just the lighting

which makes em look different...or they're the self inflating kind!

A girlfriend a long time ago was a rather popular catwalk model &

who taught me heaps about lighting...it's amazing how big B's can

become C's with the proper application of light and angle of the

shot...mind you a little squeeze of the biceps helps a lot also.

Ages before der Vunder Bra was invented matey!

I have no knowledge about the relationship tween you & your boss

however I do know a few East End lads who can help if the

boss continues not paying you. Bent's & Asti's can fetch a good

price on the foreign market...hah!

You cannot keep working for free.....especially when kids are

your real focus point.

I got paid a bit the other week, only £8k though.

Kids are okay, farms doing well, all creature comforts, good schools, sensible aunite running the show and 3.5m in bank for 'em if probs. I live like a dog mind, a homeless wretched site dog.

Catwalk model?!!! Tis' da lyfe!
