PHUKET: -- July 28th, 2014: According to David Jenner, there hasn’t been a drowning death on Phuket’s Surin Beach in five years. Despite multiple drownings at nearby beaches such as Layan, Patong, Karon, and Kata during the same time frame, Surin has remained free of fatalities.

Education Ministry to commemorate H.M. the Queen during Mother's Day

BANGKOK, 28 July 2014 (NNT) – The Education Ministry is planning to host festivities to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen during this year’s Mother’s Day.


The events will take place during August 12-15 at the ministry headquarters in Bangkok and its offices in other provinces nationwide.

Exhibitions on Her Majesty’s biography and royal projects as well as musical performances and fairs will be held at the ministry in Bangkok. An open-air theatre will also be set up to show screenings of King Naresuan movies and films commemorating Her Majesty the Queen and King Rama VI. Members of the public can view these movies free of charge.

Songs about motherhood and the queen will also be compiled into a CD. The CDs will be distributed to all schools and universities in the country from August 1 onwards.

The Ministry noted that gratitude is uniquely important in Thai social relationships and it will be highlighted most during Mother’s Day in the kingdom.

Body of Thai killed near Gaza Strip arrives in Bangkok

BANGKOK, July 28 -- The body of the Thai worker who was killed near the Gaza Strip has been flown back to Thailand and will be sent to his home town in the northern province of Nan for the funeral.

The body of the 36-year-old Thai worker, Narakorn Kittiyangkul, killed on July 23, arrived from Israel at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 3pm this afternoon.

Mr Narakorn’s elder sister Wanpen Ya-Ud and family members were present at the airport, along with officers from the Foreign Ministry's Department of Consular Affairs, Department of Employment inspector-general Singhadet Chu-Umnart, and Labour Ministry inspector-general Winai Luewiroj who presented Bt40,000 in financial assistance to the family.

The victim's body will be sent to his home town in Nan for a Hmong funeral ceremony which will be held tomorrow through Thursday.

Ms Wanpen told journalists she was satisfied with the assistance from all agencies and the authorities both in Thailand and Israel and passed the messages to Thai workers to reconsider their decisions before going to work overseas, especially in at-risk areas. (MCOT online news)

Ms Yingluck and Pheu Thai members face indictment from the EC

BANGKOK: -- The investigating panel of the Election Commission has decided to indict former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra and seven other former ministers and the ex-police chief of using state resources and personnel for electioneering before the February 2 election this year.
