Armed robbers escape with 5 million baht in cash

BANGKOK: -- Five armed men robbed a cash delivery van while it was about to deliver cash to a automatic teller machine (ATM) of Siam Commercial bank at Lotus Express outlet in Chonburi province today.

The robbery happened at about 10.00 a.m. in front of Lotus Express Nong Kangkok branch in Muang district.

Police said one of the robbers impersonated as a lottery vendor to give signal when a delivery van of Siam Administrative Management Co (Samco) security company parked in front of an ATM machine at Lotus Express Nong Kangkok branch.

He then gave signal when security personnel took two bags out with five million baht cash to deliver to the machine.

A dark colour pickup truck approach end the van with four masked robbers in fatigued dress coming with gun pointed to the guards.

Another robber then took the bags and quickly jumped into the truck, picking up the bogus lottery vendor and sped off on the Ban Bung-Kaeng bypass.

They also dropped sharp spikes in bid to stop chasing by the police.

The Kor Por 4579 licence plate of the pickup truck was lo fake’ police said.

Samco security guard Pongamorn Kampukiew said the green bags contained about five million baht in cash.

I am surprised it does not happen more often here,the delivery trucks

are not armored cars are they, a tin opener should do the job.

looks like the guards are not armed either.

Im suprised their are no cameras about

It could be a bunch of expats needing money to pay "under the table" funds for overstay or just in case they forget to carry their passports

Not much protection for them

 Five armed men robbed a cash delivery van

So, there was one robber disguised as a lottery-man, four robbers in a pickup and then a mysterious "another robber" who took the money bags. That would make it a total of six robbers.    rolleyes.gif

They are armored; I saw once two people opening that kind of vehicule; it's a little safe with two big doors;

the money isn't in bags but in iron cases and can be opened only after introduce inside the ATM ;

maybe there is some paint inside if u want to open with a can opener laugh.pnglaugh.png

Even more of a light target is people withdrawing large sums of money from banks.  I've seen people taking out milloins of baht, sticking it in their coat pocket, and walking out onto the street.

Logically, the bank's insurer should insist on exploding ink. It makes the cash worthless.

Exploding ink, when the carrier releases the case unwillingly? Surely not?

Western methods are not our uncle! We have Thai ways.. like bamboo sticks and Muay Thai guards... bah.gif

I might be on the large size but even I don't have a coat pocket that big.

Well, just maybe, the Poacher's pocket in my Barbour.

Nice of the lowly security guard to declare this on behalf of the company.

Caught on several cameras actually.  just saw the whole thing in detail on CH-3 11pm news.

Looks like a clean job. Very surprising that there aren't more stickups in Thailand. The lackadaisical guards, the poorly armored trucks, making them sitting ducks for a well planned heist. 5 million is a very nice take for Thais. Fake license plates, lookouts, road spikes, they put some thought in to this. Now if they don't go out and buy new trucks, and drink all night and start telling their friends, they'll be able to plan another job.

Given time, they will be caught soon, the BIB are good in catching those crooks as they stupidly

go on a spending spree and tell all their friends about it...

Hmm, now we know that high-volume ATM's have 5 million baht in them when full... Interesting... rolleyes.gif

Nice work if you can get it! I have seen more cash stuffed in coats and bags from the local Chinese lining up on a Monday morning at the major gold shops in Chinatown.but I dare say robbing these places would be a death wish!

Thailand is, until now, a country of little tradition when it comes to violent crime like armed robbery, kidnapping, etc. - One could even think that some foreigner characters with relevant experience in country could be tempted to go for the easy target.

Let's just hope things will stay like that.
