I have a few questions.

I'll start with a bit of history. Me and my Lao girlfriend have been living together in Thailand for almost 5 years. We have a 2 year old son who was born in Thailand. She has a little job (off the books) helping out with the preschool children at the school I've been working at. Due to visa issues and for the benefit of my son I want to relocate to the UK. I am looking at getting my girlfriend a 6 month visitor visa first then sending her home to appy for a settlement visa. I really can't risk messing this visa up as that would mean me moving to Lao!! Any help would be very much appreciated.

1) Does my girlfriend need a bank account?

2) I support my girlfriend 100% so what do I put as her expenditure as she has none?

3) The dependant children part. Does she have a dependant child or is he a dependant of me?

4) My mother is sponsoring her visit, is this even possible?

5) What would be the best thing to put down as a reason to visit.

6) Do I put my mothers name down in the family and friends section?

That'll do to start.

Regards

Puyai.

I have moved your question to it's own thread, I've also a response from 7by.

1) No. Finances for the visit can come from the applicant, sponsor, a third party or any combination of these. Whoever is contributing toward the cost of the visit should show that they have the means to do so. If a third party is contributing they should say why.

2) They are asking about her expenses in the UK during her visit. Say that this will be minimal as you will be supporting her.

3) Both.

4) You are the sponsor; i.e. the reason for her visit, the person she is visiting, even though you're going together. However, your mother can contribute toward the cost of the visit; see 1).

5) The truth.

6) As you are not married your mother is not your girlfriend's family. Whether or not she puts her as a friend will not, I think, effect the result of the application.

Thanks for the reply.

So my mother filling out the sponsorship application form and sending all the required documents to me is pointless?

What documents are you on about?

As 7by7 has pointed out, if you're mother is providing financial support she needs to write a letter saying why she is doing so, she also needs to provide evidence of her ability to support you and your girlfriend.

The biggest hurdle she will face is the reason to return, is she in Thailand legally? Are saying she intends staying in the UK for six months?

Does your child have a UK Passport?

Sorry, documents was the wrong word. Proof of sufficient finances to support her stay, e.g. pay slips, bank statements and anything else that is required.

Yes, she is staying in Thailand legally. When I was working she had a non-o and now she has a tourist visa which will run out in October.

I do want her to stay for 6 months, and yes my son does have a British passport.

Thanks again, I do really appreciate your help.

Whoever fills out the online form doesn't matter; but once it is printed out it must be signed by the applicant; your girlfriend.

Yes, as your mother is offering financial support for the visit then she should supply evidence of her ability to do so. At least the last three months bank statements and, if she's working, pay slips; 6 months is better. Originals, not copies; but accompanied by copies if she wants the originals back. She should also write a letter offering the financial support and saying why she is doing so.

You will, I assume, be staying with your mother. So she should include in her letter an offer of accommodation and a brief description of the property and who already lives there to show that there is at least one room for your exclusive use. If she owns then proof of this, such as a mortgage statement, or if she rents a letter from her landlord confirming that you and your girlfriend can stay there and that there is room for you will help.

Have you read UK visit visa basics? You may find some of your questions answered there.
