Russian woman falls to death from 44-floor condo in Bangkok

Featured Replies

Around 7 people every day take their own lives in Australia, but none is reported in any of the media. Very sad and the death of a tourist in another country seems to always make the news. How many Thai people die from unexplained circumstances daily?. Many people go on a holiday to relax and perhaps the thought of returning home to a stressful situation can tip them over the edge. Sad for everyone concerned and we are always left wondering why?

Where did she get the money to come to Thailand. Was she here on a tourist visa? How long was she here on a tourist visas? How did she support herself in Thailand? Was she a prostitute? Those are the bloody simplest questions that any journalist would ask before writing this story. The police aren't going to solve this because the press hasn't the stones to do their job.

Write a real story. Do some homework and some legwork.

I'm very sorry for you young lady and more than just a bit angry at the quagmire of corruption that is.

Why does it matter where she got the money from to come here and whether she had a tourist visa or not?

I am not sure why the 'press' has to write a real story for the police to solve the incident?

Don't see any relation to corruption either?

Your entire post......really doesnt make a lot of sense.

So we now live in a world where adults can't be trusted around balconies with low railings?? So therefore blame the construction of Thai buildings?? What percentage of our brains do we use again??

RIP to this young person and condolences to her family and friends

Just a few matters I would like clarified.

How do you know what has or hasn't been asked? Do you know the protocols involved in establishing a crime scene and carrying out investigations to establish if the matter is one where the young person has committed suicide, it there has been foul play or it was just misadventure. Well I do and it is from my experience in law enforcement for over thirty years.

I can tell you most police keep everything very close to their chest so as not to warn suspects of what they have and give them an opportunity to establish an alibi against what might be presented in an interview or later in court, that is, if foul play has been established and there is a known suspect. How do you know what the police are doing? Are you a member of the investigation team?

What in the hell has the press got to do with asking questions and doing their job so the police can solve the crime. They are not the bloody investigators and should only get involved if someone provides them with evidence or they discover evidence, either circumstantial or factual, that could assist in the investigation. They can inform Police and only that. Do you expect them to conduct the investigation on behalf of the police and ask the questions of potential witnesses and/or a suspect or suspects and then arrest and prosecute as well. They may have well asked these questions, all of which are relevant but the police may have requested it be suppressed so as not to sensationalise the incident or tip off any one should their be foul play involved.

Maybe you should wait to find out if any more comes to light during the Police Investigation but I do not think you will get an answer to many of your questions as in most instances a lot of detail, is and rightly should be, supressed. Are you able to tell us what you know about the quagmire of corruption you are alleging is present in this incident or any other for that matter. Do have direct evidence of this. If you do then put up, if not, then don't suggest you do by this ludicrous statement.

I'm intrigued by the relevance of a half-smoked cigarette. Was it extinguished or still burning? RIP to the lady whatever the circumstances.

I am intrigued by your question "Was it extinguished or still burning?" Given that any police/investigators would not have located the apartment until perhaps 1/2 hour after she fell, I wonder how it would be "still burning" -- or was a mysterious third party waiting outside her apartment for police to arrive. You have won an 'honorary mention' in the Inspector Clouseau Awards. In any case, I agree about RIP

May she rest in peace.

Meanwhile Bangkok must be by far the world's #1 of people dying by falling from high floor balconies. Are the railings there too low perhaps? Or are they a convenient way to "get rid of people, without the BiB doing anything about it"?

" Are the railings there too low perhaps?"

An interesting question. Many Thai buildings seem to have kitchen and bathroom counters lower than westerners are used to. Normally they are about waist high. Thais are generally shorter than many farangs, I wonder if this is also the case with the balcony railings? It appears a larger proportion of farangs take a balcony dive than Thais.

Perhaps someone with experience in Thai construction standards can clarify.

WOW This is something new to talk about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope ,no sense at all,in fact I could only have a little chuckle to myself at your" bloody simplest questions" When you have been here a little longer you will understand---Believe me

Enough talk of railing heights. I know this building very well and the railings are perfectly fine. So can we give that a rest?

Balcony railings are quite low here in Thailand .

I made many Balcony's and balustrades here in europe , height here is standard 110 cm or higher .

We make them in glass , without stainless or wooden top-rail the glass is 10mm/4 pvb safety foil / 10mm .

1 sheet of glass is "heat strengthened" the other sheet is " heat soaked" .

It's expensive , but safe , the edge is to small to sit on , does not break into pieces , impact resistand .

I'm intrigued by the relevance of a half-smoked cigarette. Was it extinguished or still burning?RIP to the lady whatever the circumstances.

Partially smoked cigarettes contain DNA. It could prove the presence of a second person near the time of death. Any persons in contact with a person near the time of a suspicious death are of interest. As no other evidence was found the cigarette may prove useful.
Honest question here..can Thai police do DNA testing? All the stories you read they seem more backward than that.

........a half smoked cigarette at the corridor and a cigarette tray..........

....this would imply a visitor.........

A newer building like this would have CCTV cameras.

I hope the police start with that to see who walked down the hall, entrance, exits, before and after the incident.

And find the smoking cigarette.

The building certainly does have security cameras. Our place is actually on the 36th floor of that place. Again the balcony railings are not too low. Other railings on other balconies in other condos in other places may be too low but the ones at the Address Asoke are not.

Police said they were looking for her friend to find out the exact cause of the death.

....so they don't know if the fall killed her????

good job sherlock

Most Thais have height below 170cm. Local regulations need railing height at only 90cm.

This is inadequate for westerns as many have height in the 175-185cm range. Minimum height of railings should be 105cm to cater to international guests.

Every one is ignoring the smoking gun ( half smoked cigarette) and the ash tray.

Of course this may simply be a case of a Russian lady falling off her balcony but surely a Russian would prefer a seaside town such as Pattaya or somewhere on Phuket as opposed to skyscraper Bangkok?

Russian mafia (small m) are well known for their ruthlessness towards their 'employees'.

I've seen it .

Of course you have.

Oh well.......time for me to put on my green beret, abseil down a 5 km cliff before taking out 25 terrorists with my pocket knife and a matchstick

They gave you a pocket-knife, did they?

Seems also that Russians are particularly predisposed to falling. This problem seems to effect males and females alike!

Honest question here..can Thai police do DNA testing? All the stories you read they seem more backward than that.

DNA testing is widely available and frequently practised in Thailand. The police wouldn't do it themselves, but would turn it over to a laboratory.

Police said they were looking for her friend to find out the exact cause of the death.

Why? Is the friend a medical examiner?

Probably lost, somewhat, in translation.you need to remember that a lot of these articles are translated or written by non native speakers! Use your common sense and you will get the gist..the friend will help their investigation is what they are trying to say!..obviously. .

No doubt a lot was lost from the original Swahili report. They really do need to get some native Thai reporters on the job.

Your name describes your piss talk, not upto the press to sort it out, all they go by is what the police tell them, they probably asked around the condo security etc. the police have not found the friend as yet, what has your questions on what type of visa, where she get the money from, the Russians have got money now. They probablied booked the condo from Russia before they came.

I guess they are just having a Holliday.

Leaning over to far, feet slip. Or Russian mafia stuff. It is wide open, what.
