August 1, 201411 yr Popular Post The new one on Thanon Sakornmongkol - directly opposite the Amphur Offices. Soft opening today for the land-based stalls - from what I could gather the water level has to be increased before the boats take up residence and that could be several weeks down the line. Plenty of parking and easy access compared to Khlong Hae. Had a bit of a walk around and grabbed a couple of KeBaps ... as with most markets in Hat Yai/Songkhla, the locals and stallholders were really friendly. I'll try and upload some pics over the weekend.
August 2, 201411 yr Author A couple of pics to give a flavour of the place The same eco-friendly principles carried over from Khlong Hae ... The normal culinary delights ... And various other offerings ...
August 2, 201411 yr Went to Klong Hae last week....it's undergone a big improvement since I was there last year with the concrete bridge and the road going over and through. I guess they will be competing rather than KH closing down. I wonder how that will go. Still, it's more convenient for us as it's just up the road about 5 km...impossible for me to get lost. Heaps of parking too in the Wat.
August 2, 201411 yr Author I assumed that Khlong Hae would be closing ... and the boats moving to the new place. There is an enormous piece of land been cleared presumably for parking. OK when it's dry, but ...
August 3, 201411 yr Yeah, I assumed it would close, but they've spent some money putting a substantial bridge there. I can't see it staying open......having said that, a neighbour made enquiries about opening a stall at the new one. 60 000 deposit refundable only if they stay a year, plus high rent. This is why things are expensive at the new one (40 baht for a cold drink). Could be the new one will flounder.
August 3, 201411 yr I confess I suspect the big area of land being cleared is for more housing rather than a car park. Hat Yai Nai has seen a huge expansion in housing projects these last five years, the most conspicuous being the new condo block going up on the corner of Phetkasem and Rajuhit; it will be 24 storeys when finished.

Handy for when the next floods arrive in Hat Yai Nai. I was amused to see that Napalai Condominium has several jetskis parked on the 3 or 4 floor of its car park.
August 3, 201411 yr Author This is why things are expensive at the new one (40 baht for a cold drink). It's expensive, but I think the general pricing was 15 Baht for own-label water and 20 Baht for Coke.
