sundrenched
i see that stick has a 150k value on his site mentioned today He said he turned down an offer for that, but that it's worth about 10,000,000 Baht to him. Before people only half-read that and jump on him, he didn't say he expects to get that, or that that's the market value, just that below that amount he'd rather keep it. I agree it's a nice option for him to have, so he can always return to Thailand and pick up where he left off, but it's also a risk in that the longer it's dormant, the lower the resale would be. Issangeorge
Think about it. Stick probably makes ฿100,000 plus per month from his sight. That's a pretty good living in Thailand, maybe not fantastic in Bangkok, but there is no reason he has to live in Bangkok, he could visit once a week. What skills does he have? 1/ he speaks Thai, so is that going to help him outside of Thailand, perhaps, but doubtful. 2/ he teaches English, there are various places he can do that and some for good money, but the opportunities are probably limited in his home country. 3/ he is a writer, but is he a great writer? For me no, I think Trink was far better with words than Stick and I doubt Stick could land a decent job as a writer in his home country, if he could he could stay in Bangkok and freelance as a Thai correspondent and photographer. Personally I think he would be better off developing his site, perhaps as someone said having a travel section, etc. And perhaps he could pick up extra income as a freelance correspondent and photographer. For some people with special skills big money may be available in his home country, but does Stick have those skills? hermespan
Hmm, a previous poster wrote that Trink rated massage parlors. I find that hard to believe as I distinctly remember him writing in his column that he was *forbidden* to report on them (and brothels) and had to limit his editorials to beer bars, go-go bars etc. He also said that he gould not tell his readers WHY he was unable to do so. Did that ever change? And regarding Stickman, I suspect that being the Bangkok equivalent of Angeles's 'Harry the Horse' just was no longer fun. Regarding google advertising - I've never understood why sex is some special category. To me it's part of life, just like politics, religion and economics. Why ghettoize it? hermespan
Goshawk wrote: "Bangkok Bob' too deserves a mention." Are you referring to the author of "Backstreets of Bangkok and Pattaya"? If so, I can update about him. He was a friend and co-writer on another couple of projects. I know where he is now and the story of his publication. He told me over coffee in Texas. And the other luminaries such as the author of 'Gentleman's Guide to Southeast Asia', Buckaroo Newsletter, Asia File, 'Nights in Bangkok and Pattaya' etc. Where are they now? They were pre-internet independent reporters not beholden to advertisers. All stopped. Edited September 5, 2014 by hermespan

I was in a cowboy gogo in January surrounded by naked women had a 20 year old wanting me to pay bar........and what was I thinking "shall I go and buy that vintage Hawian shirt or have sex with this babe"the shirt won.that's a 63 year old for you.
Steiner
Mango Sauce was the best Bkk based website ever to grace the internet, hilarious, well written, can't believe it closed. Good riddance to Stickman and his mildly pornographic posts that left one shifting uncomfortably in your seat. Humorless drivel, glad it's gone. jacky54
I wonder if stick is losing the plot recently. Last week he claimed another Thai based forum with the initials TD was going from strength to strength since it was sold. Actually quite the reverse with members leaving in droves, many back on here, where at least you know who the owner is, who the mods are and where you know you will be fairly treated. If can't see sticks site lasting unless he evolves it into something with more general appeal, bars and night-life does get pretty stale.

How much do these good editors charge? The only ones I've heard of work for publishing companies and you have to be a best selling author to find one. KarenBravo
The whole opening piece in last week's column came across as a poorly disguised advert for anyone wishing to buy the site off him. He even listed the minimum he'd be willing to sell for, $150k. I don't think you read the same article as me, then. He mentioned that he turned down $150k which was the highest offer he had to date. As for being an advertisement, it was just the opposite. He said he would sell it for 10 million Baht which he acknowledged the site wasn't worth.
katana
Yes, we must have read a different article. The article begins by disclosing that the site is for sale, opening with "I was laughed at when I first hinted at the possible sale of this website...". He then claims to have had an offer for $150k, which he says he turned down as too low.He ends up with ..." it's worth 10 million Baht ($300k) to me. That's why the price is what it is, and if it doesn't sell, it really is neither here nor there.", indicating he's holding out for more than $150k.The tone of the article is that he's not that desperate to sell it, but would if the price is right. Of course, to get a good price, you can't appear too keen. Nothing wrong with that.
KarenBravo
So.....he didn't say the minimum he'd be willing to sell was $150k as per your previous post.
jacky54
He would be wise to get shot of it, who knows where morality is going here, the site could be banned or those advertising on it targeted. it does promote Thailand as a place for sex tourists more than anything else, and long term that will be less acceptable to Thais. mrtoad
He wants 300 USD for it. To be honest I think he'll be lucky to get that for it, but you never know. Nothing much has changed in terms of content, and the layout is bloody awful, still You can not be serious! $300?????? In his column " Selling Your Baby" last week, he states that he has already turned down offers of $150,000.00 usd. So yo do not get confused mrtoad,..that is one hundred and fifty thousand United States dollars he has turned down. I don't have time to do the conversion for you mrtoad, but he says it is worth 10 million baht to him. He's not sure he will get it, but doesn't care..that is what he says it is worth to him. jacky54
stick has it in for this forum this week, just like a well known 'journalist' recently. last week even had good things to say about TD the place where you can abuse people you have never met. So getting stick from him is maybe not so bad. Lets not forget Stick is a man who earns a living by promoting the sex trade and in the past has also praised brothel owners! Rumour has it that a bar in Sukhumvit soi 7 linked to a Thailand discussion forum was going to be called SS, a name many users thought appropriate as the forum is ruled with an iron fist and dissidents are silenced, sometimes eliminated, never to be heard of again. But SS was not actually short for Schutzstaffel from WW II Germany - which would have been fitting enough - but Schadenfreude and Sanctimoniousness, two characteristics which pervade the forum Edited September 7, 2014 by jacky54
katana
So.....he didn't say the minimum he'd be willing to sell was $150k as per your previous post. Yes, I should have said he'd turned down $150k as too low, saying he wanted twice that. When push comes to shove he may actually sell for a price inbetween the two or closer to the first bid. He mentioned that he turned down $150k which was the highest offer he had to date.As for being an advertisement, it was just the opposite. He said he would sell it for 10 million Baht... He disclosed that the site was for sale and put some figures out that he might consider selling it for. Sure looks like advertising the site might be for sale to me.
