Thanks. Will I be questioned a lot or is it just a matter of paying and leaving?

They may ask you why you overstayed.

And you might need a very good reason

At the airport because you get one free day.

And you might need a very good reason

Tell us, what happens if the reason is not very good ?

At the airport because you get one free day.

One may get away with the fine if one day overstay. All other cases get fined for each day over.

Back in May 2012 i left Thailand with an 851 day overstay. I just paid a 20,000 baht fine. I also had an immigration lawyer meet me at the airport and she waited until i had paid the fine and cleared immigration. I wasn't questioned about my overstay by the officials but the lawyer said that just say that you met a woman and didn't want to leave her whilst i did a visa run. Also my mother had just passed away so i was told to memtion this aswell. I think the best time to go is when they are busy at immigration, as in my case they were. So maybe book yourself an evening flight. From what i've heard from friends and reports throught thaivisa i think they are allowing people who are currently on overstay a little grace period to leave before they clamp down next month.
