Popular Post webfact
Tarit's resort homes in Khao Yai demolishedBANGKOK: -- Two resort homes believed to be owned by former Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tarit Pengdit were quietly demolished to the ground, two days before forestry officials would begin demolishing them tomorrow (Wednesday). The two luxury resort homes were accused by forestry officials of encroaching on the Khao Yai national park in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima province. Mr Tarit and his wife earlier presented a document identifying themselves as owners of the land next to the homes but they denied owning them even though they are connected to their land, said Mr Yanyong Kangkan, director of the 8th Forest Management Office (Nakhon Ratchasima). He said the two home buildings, which are connected to land legally owned by former DSI chief Tarit encroached on the foothills of Pa Khao Sied-Ar national forest reserve. He said forestry officials placed a notice on the property in April, seeking to identify the owners, but no one has come forward. “It’s a common practice for the department to seek the owners first. If no one shows up to declare ownership, we can demolish the buildings, according to section 25 of the National Forest Reserves Act,” he said. He earlier said forest officials would start to bulldoze the illegal home buildings in Pak Chong’s Ban Nong Nam Daeng Wednesday. But the two homes had been flattened quietly Monday morning. Prasarn Maruekapitak, a former senator, questioned the quiet demolition saying it might be an attempt to hide and destroy evidence as all wood planks were all removed. Prasarn earlier said he would witness the demolition by 40 forestry officials with heavy machinery of the two homes Wednesday. Earlier environmental activist Tawan Srikanin also said his alliance and former senator Prasarn will witness the operation. He said he would also file a charge of forest land encroachment against Mr Tarit’s wife, forcing her to prove the buildings don’t belong to the family. Previously, the Royal Forest Department had denied that Mr Tarit’s family was involved in any land encroachment, insisting all buildings on his property were legal. However, the department failed to specify whether the two attached home buildings were legal or not. But Tarit said Monday the two home buildings did not belong to his wife, and also insisted there was no building on his legal property in Khao Yai. But Mr Prasarn said the two homes built in the compound of Tarit’s wife’s property in Khao Yai with proof of a road bring built from her property to the two homes. News of forest encroachment by resort home owned by the former DSI chief emerged during the height of the anti-government protest against the Yingluck government by the People’s Democratic Reform Committee. During the period Mr Tarit began his tough mission to press insurrection charges against protest leaders, forcing them to cry foul over his alleged power abuse to persecute political opponents to the Yingluck regime. But, this is small fry. Why can they not chase the big encroachment cases, I'm thinking of 1,000 rai stolen from a temple donation and now an elitist country club called Alpine? Come on Prayuth, this is the time to sort out Alpine before the 20 year statute of limitations expires(20 years because it is stolen temple land).

Fair enough.

Bangmod
Bet you didn't see that one coming.... wondering why no one did see a demolition team there on Monday, it would not have been that 100 Cambodians came on foot, with spoons to demolish the 2 houses quietly, there must have been some heavy machinery involved, and especially now that the mention all wood was removed from the place. If found that the already corrupt head of DSI was involved in this, will he be charged with polluting a national park as well?? Looking to the picture, he should. Come on Prayuth, this is the time to sort out Alpine before the 20 year statute of limitations expires(20 years because it is stolen temple land). Why concentrate on the Alpine Country Club, did they turn down your application for membership? Couldn't possibly be a Thaksin connection could it? Your recollection (if that is what it is and not just a rehash of anti Thaksin BS) of the circumstances surrounding the land that eventually became the Alpine Country Club is imaginative if nothing else. Even an anti Thaksin piece in The Nation blog provides a more accurate account of the land acquisition then your fanciful "1000 rai stolen from a temple donation" rant. ( http://blog.nationmultimedia.com/print.php?id=15288 ) If you want to rant at somebody, rant at Snoh Tienthong, who was Interior Minister at the time (under the PM, General Chatichai Choonhavan). Snoh ordered the Temple's inherited land (which the Abbot wanted to sell as it was not anywhere near the temple, Wat Thammikaramvaraviharn) to be transferred to the Mahamongkut Foundation, who were the new Inheritance Guardians appointed by Snoh. On August 21st 1990 the Alpine Real Estate Co.Ltd. and Alpine Golf and Sports Club Co.Ltd. bought the land off the Mahamongkut Foundation, paying 142 Million Baht. They developed the land into a Country Golf Club along with prestigious housing and then 8 years later sold the land to Thaksin for 500 million baht. What would you want the junta to investigate? NongKhaiKid
I'm not well up on the law covering all of this so will the demolition be deemed enough or are charges concerned illegal encroachment and building available ? If charges are possible the question is will they be followed through on ?

Popular Post Robby nz
Something very strange about this story, as its told in the OP anyway. First off : They were not just houses but "The two luxury resort homes". They are on NP land which is connected, presumably by road and by a power line : "He said the two home buildings, which are connected to land legally owned by former DSI chief Tarit encroached on the foothills of Pa Khao Sied-Ar national forest reserve. Yes it is stated that the connection is by a road : But Mr Prasarn said the two homes built in the compound of Tarit’s wife’s property in Khao Yai with proof of a road bring built from her property to the two homes. In spite of them being connected to land he has documents to prove he owns Tarit says the buildings are not his : Mr Tarit and his wife earlier presented a document identifying themselves as owners of the land next to the homes but they denied owning them even though they are connected to their land, said Mr Yanyong Kangkan, director of the 8th Forest Management Office (Nakhon Ratchasima). He has also said they did not belong to his wife and that there are no buildings on the land he owns : But Tarit said Monday the two home buildings did not belong to his wife, and also insisted there was no building on his legal property in Khao Yai. So his land which was said to be a luxury resort has no buildings on it, only a road through it leading to what were two luxury resort homes. And previously : Previously, the Royal Forest Department had denied that Mr Tarit’s family was involved in any land encroachment, insisting all buildings on his property were legal. All buildings on his property were legal ? But Tarit has just said there are no buildings on his property. This leaves a lot of unanswered questions does it not ? Is it true that there are no buildings on the property he owns ? If the houses did not belong to Tarit how did someone build a road through his property to build and access them ? There would have been power to the 2 houses, did the line go through Tarits property ? Who put on the power connection and paid the power bill ? Did Tarit or someone connected with him not notice a road going through his property and the houses being build and presumably used ? If they did not belong to Tarit then who did they belong to ? Who in the forestry Dept previously denied there was any forest encroachment ? Who demolished the houses, took away any valuable bits and should be responsible for cleaning up the remaining mess ? The AMLO could be asked to help on this one, like where did Tarit get the money to buy the land and not build these luxury resort homes ? Shouldn't really be to difficult to get to the bottom of this as the locals will have noticed what was happening, find the contractor who built the houses and ask who paid them, look at the power and water bills ETC.
