Hi folks,

my Australian one year non-immigrant "O" visa ran out in August this year, but I have to return from Europe to Chiang Mai in November for a few weeks, to finish dental work.

If I get a return ticket from Europe, then I get a standard 30 days (?) entry visa which covers my time there OK.

But I was hoping to get a one way ticket to leave flexible my return, without paying exorbitant ticket date-change fees. In which case I have been told that I would need a Tourist Visa 60 day + 30 day extension for a one way flight.

Just wondering what would be the cheapest option, to get a few months extension on the current O visa (if that is possible), or obtain the 60 day + 30 - which I assume that I would have to get in Europe before heading to Thailand?

thanks for your attention!

You could get a one way ticket to a nearby country within 30 days of your arrival. If you buy it in advance you can get them so cheap you could trash it and not loose a lot.

On the 29th of this month the new rules start allow for a 30 day extension of a visa exempt entry.

But getting a tourist visa would be the best choice. You should be able to get one in Europe without a problem.

Only one year extensions of stay are possible fro a non immigrant visa entry unless you are married to a Thai or are the parent of a Thai.

One day an entire aircraft will stand empty if they sell the tickets cheap enough biggrin.png

I said trash it in a general term. I would expect a person might cancel it and try get back a small refund if it was worth effort.

Seems like it will be easier to just buy a return ticket and get the standard 30 days stay, thats all I need. Too much of a hassle with the other alternatives. Thanks for all your input!
