Took my little daughter into a play area a few days ago, just the two of us, she’s only 18 months old and it was a great experience for her. She loved us going down the slide into the all the plastic balls together. Which is why we actually went in.

We were outside watching and some of the Thai parents took their children down the slide together and my daughter was laughing her head off watching them, so we paid our 70b and in we went. All the female staff loved her and were really friendly and doting on her while asking me all the usual questions in Thai when we were finished.

Today we went back, but this time with my Thai wife, myself and the little one went in and the wife got herself an iced coffee and sat down along the wall area and started taking photos with her tablet. The little one was loving it and Momma was waving and smiling over at her.

Enter one of the same Thai staff from two days ago…. Now I was being told that I cannot go down the slide (It’s about 2 meters wide so 5-6 people can go down it at the same time. We were watching two Thai parents and their two children all go down it together the first day there) She tells us that only our child can go down it by herself. Upon being asked if she thinks that’s dangerous, sending an 18 month old down by herself, she retorts that she’s seen younger children do it by themselves.

We get our money back and leave.

They saw us happy, they be hating. biggrin.png

So maybe they changed policy, or only enforce the policy when it's busy?

No one was in there but us today. smile.png

I can't believe that the staff have been given any policy. laugh.png

I suspect the slide wasn't approved for falung weights.

I weigh 73kg... the slide is about 2 meters wide and designed for a number of people to use together, as the family of Thais (2 adults 2 children) were doing previously.

Of course the thais hate non thais, you are not welcome,laugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.png

Poppycock. That's like saying "the" Americans hate blacks, based on a small sampling of rednecks.

There are rednecks everywhere.

Actually we were very welcome when we went 2 days ago, but then they thought my daughter was fully Western too.

It's only today when they saw my Thai wife, happy, taking photos with her tablet and laughing, smiling, interacting with our daughter that the... Mai Dai!! came out. biggrin.png

Must be because this time your wife went along. So no special treatment. This is girls' natural response called 'jealousy'

It appears he is using a play on words from the saying/rap song "they see me rollin they hatin". A bit of tongue in cheek. smile.png

IF there were no thai parents there on the 2nd day, you cannot say whether they would have allowed them on the slide or not. instead you jump to a conclusion

They do change policies on a whim or told about the policies.

I go to the Mall pool and one day I am able to swim without a cap (I shave my head anyway) the other day I am not.

This kind of "policy" behavior that changes within 24 hours is quite normal in Thailand.

Yep, it's nothing to do with them "hating", sometimes I think some staff like to get a bit officious and change the rules. Yesterday at the airport, I was told by one of the check in staff that my hand luggage was to big for the baggage compartments. When I explained to her that I fly this route almost weekly (have done for the last 4 years), and I know for a fact that the said luggage does fit the compartments, she marched off saying next time you might not be allowed. Of course, that's nonsense, but it was pretty funny. As in many countries, some staff love to show their "power".

did you forgot to leave a generous tip?

Tip the playpens? Stroll on, I've heard it all now. Out of curiosity, do you tip at 7-11?

Op, things change on a whim especially when Thai females are involved. Being empty and that you are a farang may have had her thinking you would scare off any potential Thai customers. Or perhaps the stigma that your other half must be a worker...

I presume you talking about play area inside a shopping mall. If so, the rules are very clear my friend. An adult may enter the play area but most definitely cannot use the play equipment. Two reasons: 1 Having adults using the play equipment is dangerous for toddlers. You may think you are safe but other not so careful adults could slam into unaccompanied kids and cause serious injury. The rules are clearly written on entrance usually by a scale indicating minimum/maximum child height.

2 the equipment is NOT designed for adults and there are weight limits on the equipment.

If this was now of the play areas inside a shopping mall then you deserved to get your butt kicked off. If my child was playing there I would have demanded it!

DB I think this is a people thing, by that I mean some people get off on power and authority and the lower the individual in the food chain the more petty there rules.

I don't think Thailand has more or less people who suffer with this, (look at some airport security staff around the world) So many situations were westerners will find themselves in a vulnerable position when encountering some uneducated and low paid individual with a need to Piss you off and make themselves feel more important.......Remember the saying; "Give a pauper a horse....and he'll ride it to hell"

My favorite is a guy who mans a car park in my local town, its never busy and he sits in his box all day, cars come and go for the first few times I parked in there he would let me park, get out and walk up to the box to pay, 20 Baht.........He would then tell me I can't park there.......I have to park .....There....10 feet over. OK I entertained this prick for two more visits, (out of amusement really) After that I happened to be meeting my wife in town and we arranged to meet in this car park...I parked and started walking to his hut and yep....I can't park there again, I told him I was not going to move, well he was about to shit a kitten on me when my wife, who was on foot came walking up and asked what the problem was. The guy said I had no respect for authority and he was in charge, he, meaning me had to follow his orders in the car park........Mean while around 6 car had come and gone in this time, parking all over..(Thai style parking all parked under one tree blocking an exit)....The outcome of all this, my wife ripped him a new verbal corn hole.......he then dragged his sorry ass back to his hut shut the door and dropped the big wooden serving hatch at the front and started muttering to himself.....I park where I want now.....Like ever other user of the car park!

Why not? Most 7-11s have a tip box on the counter. I'm sure the loose change accumulated over the week is a nice boost to their meagre wages!

You missed 3. Lots of Thais are like children so let one in with his kid and the place will be full of adults and no space for children in a few days.
