Hello ,
I am planning to visit my father in koh samui in November and I want to stay for a year.
What documents do I need from my dad who has a company in Thailand and work permit, for me to apply for a visa here in Sydney?

Also should I apply for single entry 3 month visa and extend it while I'm there or the 1 year visa?

Thank you

Have a copy of your fathers passport (ID-page and visa/extension of stay) to proof he lives in Thailand and maybe copy of his WP.

You should apply for the 1 year multiple, as you will not be able to get extensions of stay unless you are under 20 years old.

Than you can get a single non-O and get a 1 year extension of stay from immigration in Thailand.

(You must be living with your father is about the only condition)

Since are 18 all you need to get is a single entry non-o and then you can apply for a one year extension as your fathers dependent.

You need your birh certificate (plus copy) and a copy of your fathers passport photo page and extension stamp.

"How will immigration know if I am living with my father or not ?"

Because they'll ask for your address and you'll put down that you live with him.
They might or might not check. If they check, and you aren't living there, they'll probably cancel your extension.

If you don't want to stay with your father all time, you might be better of with a multiple non-O. It will mean having to leave the country every 90 days, but gives you the opportunity to travel to other countries as well.
