SINGAPORE: The National Environment Agency says the smoking ban at hawker centres and coffeeshops, which started last Saturday, has resulted in about 250 warnings given out.

Five smokers were issued fines in the first 4 days when they refused to put out their cigarettes.

Another 137 were issued warnings and cooperated with the Agency's officers.

NEA has inspected 771 food outlets with outdoor areas and 121 hawker centres, and warned 116 of them for not having proper smoking corners.

It said officers would continue their inspections, which are also conducted based on feedback from food outlet owners and members of the public. :o

Good advice, but my suggestion would be to extinguish one's cigarette when asked to by the authorities to avoid the fine. Anyone who refuses just invites problems.
