I have renewed my British Passport it Arrived yesterday after 4 Months! I have a Retirement extension in my old passport witch I obtained in Jomtien April 8th this year, but is was only stamped until 15th September the date my old Passport expired.

( It was an Ed visa originally) The agent who got it for me said no Problems just come back with new passport we can get re stamped until April next year.

Now he has told me no can do must get new Visa! I did my 90 Day Report at Kap Cheong, and told them i was going to switch to a Married Extension. they said, Through my soon to be wife, I just come back to them with all paperwork and new passport and thats all, nothing about getting new Visa, this was also confirmed by a well recognized Visa Agent in Pattaya who I spoke to today, yet others on this Forum are saying new Imm O Visa first!

I am confused and concerned. as an aside the school I am teaching at is getting a Work Permit for me as well, already have License.  . ,

You will need to apply for a new extension next month.

You do not need to go out for a new visa.

You can change the reason for your extension from retirement to marriage without a problem.

Thanks Ubonjoe, just concerned because people are saying Old Visa cannot be transferred to new passport, so this is not the case? Right.

Visas are not transferred but your extension of stay can be transferred.

Perhaps confusion from incorrectly calling extensions of stay visas.

Do you have any idea of what I should do? My wife and I are on retirement extension. My wife's passport expires in May so they only gave her an extension until May, whereas my extension expires in July.

Will they give her an extension in her new passport until July to coincide with mine without all the required retirement extension documents, or will I need to produce them all again? i.e a new income letter etc.

First step is transfer of current extension and information about visa into the new passport - that will be valid until  Sept 15 as stated.  Next is visit with wife and documents for extension of stay for marriage before that date to obtain a new one year extension of stay for marriage (if you have financials for retirement expect office to ask you to apply for that however as less work for everyone).

Edit:  Add quote as another post made during reply.

It seems you wife is on dependent extension based upon your extension.

They will only give her an extension to May then she would have to apply for an extension that would be until your's expires. No need for you you to reapply.

I understand, but her extension (based on my retirement) is always done with mine, where I present an income letter etc. What documents would she need to extend it? It's a bit of a grey area. I'll have to go and inquire about this.

She will only need the same copies you submit every year to get her extension after yours is done.

Just your marriage certificate (plus copies) and copies of your passport photo page and extension stamp.

Probably you got one extension of stay for less than a full year because your passport expired in less than a year. You will not get those extra months added back when you get your new passport. In future you will need to apply each year during the month when this one expires, not during the month when you've done renewals in the past.

A long thread on this topic:  http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/663684-new-rules-for-extensions-of-stay-with-expiring-passport/?hl=%20extension%20%20of%20%20stay%20%20on%20%20expiring%20%20passport

Just a couple of weeks ago I took my new passport to Jomtien and got the retirement extension of stay transferred.

They do not transfer VISAS, but they do put hand stamps in your new passport with the information you will need in future.

In my case they put in three handstamps. 1. showed the information about the original Non-Imm O-A visa, 2. showed the information about my entry stamp at Suvarnabhumi and 3. showed the information about my current extension of stay that remains valid until January 2015.

I intentionally got a new passport early so that when I do my next extension of stay, I will get the full year because my passport won't expire during the year.

If you got your last extension with a passport that had less than a year validity on it, then the extension given to you would be for less than a year ... up to the expiration of your old passport. From now on, your annual extension of stay will need to be renewed each year in the month this last one expired. They will not EXTEND that to give you the full year. This has been true for a while. Your extension of stay cannot be made beyond the expiration date of your passport and you won't get the full year on that extension when you get a new passport.

You will have to do your annual extensions of stay each year during the month when this one expires. You will have lost a few months this year because of the passport expiration and they won't give you back those lost months on this one.
