BANGKOK: -- Deputy commissioner of the Royal Thai Police said that all violent attacks ding the past several months on anti-government protesters led by the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) were manipulated by a mastermind living abroad.

“We have discovered that the acts of violence during the recent demonstrations such as the use of M 79 grenade launchers or explosive devices are all interconnected. All these acts are part of the same movement and most probably carried out by the same group of people,” said Pol Gen Somyos Phumphanmuang, the deputy police commissioner of the Royal Thai Police.

The senior police officer was tasked by the National Council for Peace and Order to handle investigations of all cases relevant to political unrest and violence that broke out since November last year in the country.

He said it has been a period of two months since authorities set out to apprehend suspects who carried out violent activities to disrupt PDRC rallies and many suspects have been taken into custody.

Investigations have revealed that the actions were part of a larger movement aimed at destabilizing the country.

He said the police have set out to find and arrest suspects connected to the numerous bombings and gun attacks on the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) rallies in many parts of the country.

In a period of two months, 116 people have been arrested from a list of 148 who have warrants out for their arrest and authorities believe that the attacks were part of a movement that is manipulated by a key mastermind living abroad.

He showed a diagram of the network of which these perpetrators have undertaken jobs to harass the PDRC protest rallies.

The senior officer then pointed at Somjetn Kongwattana, otherwise known as ‘Son’, a prominent member of the Wang Noi Redshirt network.

He is suspected of being the main procurer of military grade weaponry from neighboring countries through an intermediary who is believed to be a former prominent politician.

The weapons are then distributed to three heads of the movement who are Ak-khee Phuangpetch, Wattana Sraphvichien and finally ‘Ple’ or Kritsuda Khunasaen.

Upon receiving the weapons, Ak-khee or Aphichart Phuangpetch then sends them on to Kritsada Chaikhae and Woraphol Polamaiwongsa to carry out acts of violence at PDRC rallies at Bantad Thong road, the Victory Monument and Chaengwattana road.

PDRC rallies in front of the Shinawatra 3 Tower at the Sowanee intersection and rallies in front of the Minburi branch Siam Commercial Bank and on Rama 9 road have all been targeted by the two men.

As for the group headed by Wattana Sapvichien, they were responsible for sending on the weapons to Chaiwat Pholpho or ‘Piek Kalamae’ to be distributed among the Samut Sakhon Redshirt group and another group led by Mai Nueng Ko Kunthee.

The last group headed by ‘Ple’ or Kritsuda Khunasaen was responsible for handing over the weapons to Taweechai Wichakham and Chatchawaan Prab-bamrung to carry out violent attacks at PRDC rallies at the Big C Supercenter on Ratchadamri road.

In any event, authorities have uncovered that the mastermind behind the movement is living abroad and providing the required financing for the group.

Ple’ Kritsuda acts as the accountant looking after the payments made to the men hired to carry out the attacks.

The sum of the payments varies in accordance with the value of media feedback and it is believed that 100 million baht in total have been paid out.

Gen Somyos said, “Looking at the accounting records of the group, the payments are categorized under remedial expenses. We are not certain yet whether remedial expenses are for medical treatments alone or whether they are for payments for other nefarious purposes but we are in the process of determining the movement of the funds.”

All in all, there are 70 cases of violent incidents during PDRC rallies in total and only 7 cases thus far have been solved with 116 suspects arrested.

Thirty two suspects remain at large and among these is Kritsada Chaikhae who authorities suspected has fled to Cambodia.

Thai authorities at the moment coordinating with their Cambodian counterparts to locate and extradite him back to Thailand, he said.

Great, but by not telling the name of the mastermind, you can make any claim (which would be favorable to the Junta).

If the police chief wants to get some credibility he should give names.

Is it normal for Police in any country conducting a thorough investigation to reveal all before the mastermind has been apprehended and/or conclusive proof has been collected?

Please...

Yes, look at what appears on US television channels for example that would be sub judice elsewhere and in LoS the BIB and other aspects of officialdom aren't exactly noted for being cautious over what they say.

will they discover who tried to 'kill' suthep when he suddenly changed his route and conveniently drove past a building with weapons and was attacked?

Typical change the topic into Suthep--pathetic.

Change of subject? if memory serves me right, Suthep led the PDRC protests, ...

I think you just feel like trolling today.
