Hi, Thank you for all you help in this forum.

What type of visa is required for the wife of a person who is on retirement visa? He is over 50 years old but she is under 50 years old. What is the cost of such visa? I believe that once a person is on retirement visa this would also apply for his wife even under the age of 50 years old, am I right?

once you are on an 'extension of stay' [not a visa] she can become your dependent. she will need to be on a 'non-o' visa when you visit your local immigration with the appropriate documentation proving marriage [best to check with your local immigration exactly what they want - can differ from one office to another]. she should then qualify for an 'extension of stay' as your dependent without needing any funds of her own, also her age is not a factor. time-wise her extension will mirror yours.

i understand the cost of all extensions are 1,900 baht.

What do mean by a retirement visa? ,Do you have a multiple entry non-o or OA visa from an embassy or consulate or an extensions of stay from immigration based upon retirement?

Non-o visa it is not possible.

Non-oa visa entry until the 29th of this month she would not qualify for a dependent extension.

If you are on an extension of stay based upon retirement she could get a dependent extension but she would first need to get a non-o visa.

Ubon my wife has an Education visa and I have a retirement visa . Both non thai . Can the Ed visa be the same as a non o , or do we have to go out to change to a nonrolleyes.gif.pagespeed.ce.hZ59UWKk-s.gif o ?

She can try at immigration first to see if they are willing to allow her an extension of stay based on being a dependent. But she might have to go to a neighboring country an apply there for a non-o visa based on being your dependent.

In both cases she will need a copy of your passport and extension of stay and proof of marriage.

She should be able to apply for the dependent extension with either a ED visa entry or extension based upon attending school.

Most immigration offices will go by the written rules that state that a person only needs a non immigrant visa entry to apply for an extension.

If one person has the retirement visa then the wife can get dependent visa that cost only 1900 Baht instead of Ed visa which cost around 25000 Baht. But they must have original wedding documents and a Non immigrant O visa from the Embassy.

One thing which may help--my wife and I needed a copy of our marriage license and a letter certifying its authenticity from the embassy of the country in which we were married; both translated into Thai. Immigration wanted to see the original marriage license and they made a copy of it to keep, returning our original.

Thailand is montised country. There is price on everything in any montised system. Knowing it and meeting it is the challenge.

That isn't meant as anything critical. If not for Thailand, I'd be dead and buried. If not for the children of Thailand. So many good people.

If he is on a retirement visa, she has to wait 1 year before He can apply for extension of stay.

It is my understanding that the term 'retirement ' what really is a visa. and 'extension of stay' which represents the extension of the retirement visa is mixed up when people apply for a 'depended' status.

Retirement = no dependend

Extension of stay = dependends allowed.

Please correct me if i am wrong!

If you are writing about a OA visa at the moment you are correct.

But on or after the 29th of this month they will be able to get a dependent extension for a OA visa entry. New police order.

The question asked you was what do you mean by a "retirement visa?" There is no such thing. Some people call a Non-Imm O-A a retirement visa, but most people staying here for more than a couple of months on a retirement basis are here on an EXTENSION of STAY (not a visa) that you apply for at immigrations and need to renew each year.

It makes a difference as was explained in the first post above.
