The one aspect that posters should be aware of, is that the forms you submit at the US Embassy, are definitely shared with various US agencies. So, there is a chance, in my opinion, that by filing these forms, if they do not match what you file in the US, an IRS tax audit could be triggered. If the NSA is using Facebook to mine info on Americans, then surely the IRS is using the embassies worldwide, to mine info on expats, and their tax status. Beware of providing info unwittingly. Those forms are scanned, and shared. This is a certainty.

That is not true. The embassy sends nothing to the IRS.

I don't think they even make a copy of the income affidavit.

False. That is how they used to do it. Not anymore. Everything is now shared. Count on it, and deceive yourself only if you have nothing to be concerned about.

Please use your common sense. Have you learned nothing from Snowden? Everything is shared. Everything. Why would this be exempt? You are dreaming, if you think that is so. It is a virtual gold mine of expat information.

You are the one dreaming of a big brother that doesn't exist yet. Sure the US is spying on everyone. At the same time they are not able to share the vital information that they would really need, for jealousy, inefficiency, or even legal limitations. Go figure about the dusty paperwork of people of old people living in a third world country.

Dream on. Catch up with the times. Yes, it is big brother. And I for one, will not aid them in their quest. What do you think over 800,000 people working in the US intelligence community are doing with their time? I wish your reality was the real one. I wish. But, I do not dream of it.

Here is something from the Washington Post. If you think they are being responsible and not spying on all Americans, you are out of the loop.

The Washington Post reported in 2010 that there were 1,271 government organizations and 1,931 private companies in 10,000 locations in the United States that are working on counterterrorism, homeland security, and intelligence, and that the intelligence community as a whole includes 854,000 people holding top-secret positions.

And that was four years ago. If anything the fascist leader has increased those numbers significantly.

Go on, show any proof of that intelligence (under Pentagon or close to it) do their work for the IRS (Dep.t of Treasury). Different payrolls, nobody do work for free. The US is basically unable to share information about criminal cases among different agencies, unless it's an high profile case. Civil cases, not happening at all. Affidavits at embassies... laughable.

Just one example from the IRS website. There are hundreds of authorization Congress has given them.

Federal Information Sharing

The IRS Federal Intergovernmental Program (FIP), one of Governmental Liaison’s partnering components, strengthens existing relationships and develops new ones to support the development of initiatives with other federal agencies.

FIP increases collaboration and enhances effective tax administration by:

Complementing efforts to identify and address non-complianceLeveraging outreach resourcesAssisting other federal agencies in achieving their goals

Under FIP, the Service has many initiatives with federal agencies that include information sharing and outreach programs, and data matching activities.

FIP positions IRS as a leader in interagency collaboration and sets an example for other federal agencies in support of the Presidential Memorandum of 1/21/09 on Transparency and Open Government.

A video featuring the Chief, Office of Governmental Liaison, provides more information about FIPP.

Sure. According to these nice intentions, the US should be the country where the tax evasion, criminal activity, or terrorism isn't even thinkable.... reality is different. They have further bloated public spending with yet another program, directorate and multiple levels of power, but I doubt the actual application and results

Anyway, to be back on topic: declaring income for retirement visa has NO tax implications. This is my opinion and the one of other reputable people in this forum. If you want to think differently, be welcome.
