Ducati Nakhon Rathchasima

Dropped in on the way home today.

A very nice selection of bikes on display from the new Hypermotard to Multistrada to 1200S Monster to a 1199S Panagale (at a cool 1.7 million).

I realy like the Monster (1200). My missus liked the Hypermotard. (I liked all the bikes in there come to think of it).

The price list offered was quite reasonable considering how much big bikes cost in Thailand.

If you are heading out of Korat towards BKK on highway 2, the shop is at the entrance to a big DIY superstore about 10 KM from Korat on your left.

I also dropped into Yamaha Korat to catch a glimpse of the bike I have secured a purchase on in Singapore later this year but it wasn't on display = MT-09, but they have a Super Tenere on display.

The Ducati prices are only reasonable (for LOS, anyway;)) on locally-manufactured bikes- proportionally, Ducati charges about 15%-20% more than other manufacturers (except KTM, who also gouges) above what import-tax-influenced prices should be for their Italian-made motorcycles.

Case-in-point is the Panigale S you mentioned- it should be about 1.45m based on the US MSRP of $25K.

Can't scan the price list at the moment but its along these lines :-

Panigale ABS = 1.4 million

Panigale ABS S = 1.8 million (not 1.7 sorry)

Panigale R = 2.2 million

Monster 1200 = 900K

Monster 1200s = 1.1 million

Streetfighter 848 = 868K

I really liked the 1200S Monster = extremely cool.

The Panigale looks a real weapon (the one they had on show was in Matt Black), then I glance out of the showroom window at highway 2 (Mittrapharp Road) and it reminds me of Mad Max 2. Suddenly the thought of riding a Panigale in amongst it becomes a scary thought.

If you liked the Monster 1200, you may like the new Monster 821 which, I was told, looks exactly like that but with a smaller engine.

Unfortunately Ducati decided to import them for now at a ridiculous 799K baht price. Rumor is they will start making them locally end of the next year.

Nice bikes and it made me very happy to see such a showroom displaying this exotic (almost pornographic) machinery up here in korat.

Alas - I return to Malaysia and work on Sunday so the dream of buying that 1200S will have to remain as such for now.

I start work in Singapore in September, have reserved a new MT-09 ABS Yamaha (even though the only one I have only ever seen was one being ridden down a road), the road test write ups are enough for me to go on (so I am ready for the sharp throttle and soft front end).

Couldn't see me using a Monster 1200S for commuting around busy Singapore (plus the cost of the MT is seriously less).

Problem with having bikes in other countries other than home is that when the work is done you have limited time to remain in the country upon the cancellation of immigration passes plus having to hand back rented property, leaving any offer to buy the bike a consideration. I lost quite a bit on my Street Triple when I had to leave last time, so a Ducati Monster 1200S could mean a hefty loss. As we know importing the bike back home to Thailand is ball ache and not financially sensible ;;;;;;;;but thats another thread.

Im a big duke fan but it makes me wonder who would want to buy at an import price when in 12mths the buy price will be reduced due to local assembling.. Seems like a big lose if you renew bikes often.

Ducati have made a big mistake with the 821 because it's too close to the 1200.

Considering their manufacturing is already set up for the 795/796 they should have made a 796 mk II and a mk II Monster 1100 Evo both being air cooled as a Monster should be.

I do fully agree but; AUDI disagrees whistling.gif

ducati means twin but i believe at one point, a twin will limit ducati both on performance and reliability and eventually Audi will pressure on them for a non quirky, less hot and more reliable v4 or an inline four.

Check what happened to Lamborghini after Audi acquired it. some said Lambo lost soul but i believe, they are better, more dynamic and more reliable machines now and still it is a Lambo.

My Ducati had 'soul'! Buckets of it. It was only after I put a fair few miles on it that I realised 'having soul' meant it didn't bloody run and was in the workshop every month.

Oddly the BMW’s are a better value when compared to prices in Europe.

Depends what model. The 899 and the S1000RR are the same price in the UK, the 899 is 250,000 baht cheaper here due to local assembly...

If i were in Europe i would have choosed the BMW over the 899. But here in LOS things are different as mentioned above. And i still cant agree too pay a premium for the same thing compared to other countries.

Yeah I looked at the BMW about 6 months ago. 2 things put me off were the price and the fact that a new model will come for 2015. I was tempted to wait for it but too many unknowns like spec, price, when it will get here etc.

Plus I fancied a change from an inline 4. I'll definitely look at the 2015 when it gets to Thailand though.
