August 30, 201411 yr I am trying to download attachments posted by other members, but I am unable to (says I don't have permission). Also, I used to have the "Attach Files" option when composing a reply to a topic, but I no longer see it. Does anyone know how to fix this? Edited August 30, 201411 yr by dr_lucas
August 30, 201411 yr Be sure to select on the bottom right of the reply box "More Reply Options" to see the Attach Files feature. What kind of attachment are you having difficulties downloading? .pdf/.doc/.jpg/...
August 30, 201411 yr Author Be sure to select on the bottom right of the reply box "More Reply Options" to see the Attach Files feature. What kind of attachment are you having difficulties downloading? .pdf/.doc/.jpg/... Strange, the attach files option now shows up again without clicking anything, but I am still unable to download. Here is an example (jpg): http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/755451-netanyahu-declares-victory-in-gaza/page-2#entry8309044 Gives me "You do not have permission to view this attachment." August 30, 201411 yr If the url you submitted, can you see the graphic thumbnail in the post, or just link text? Without being logged into ThaiVisa a web browser user will usually see linked text and be redirected to the "You don't..." message. Are you having any other issues with your computer, Internet, browser, or other web pages? Have you tried disabling ALL browser extensions, closing and reopening the browser, logging into ThaiVisa and viewing that post, downloading that link?
August 30, 201411 yr Author I am logged in. When I view the post, this is what I see: http://grabilla.com/0481e-97ccda93-74a6-4456-8fbc-5cceab8fee4a.png When I click the attachment, this is what I get: http://grabilla.com/0481e-301ab6c7-352a-4eee-ac3e-e6b9ca1a9379.png I have no other issue with my computer, internet etc. I have tried using Chrome, IE & FF, to no avail. August 30, 201411 yr When logged in, and standard browser settings, you should be able to view an inline thumbnail of the graphic (as seen in this full-sized non-thumbnail posted graphic) My screencap, showing visible inline graphic thumbnail as it should appear OP original screencap: If ALL of your browsers are presenting an 'in-line link' rather than an in-line graphic thumbnail then your browser session is acting as if it's not logged in. Yet your example screenshot shows you have the LIKE, QUOTE and REPORT link buttons showing you are indeed logged in. Something may be interfering with your browser cookies. When logged in you should be able to view in-line graphics (like the one above) and in-line thumbnails of images a user has uploaded to ThaiVisa (like the one Jingthing posted). Try deleting your ThaiVisa browser cookies and log back in. Edited August 30, 201411 yr by RichCor
August 30, 201411 yr Author Yeah, I'm quite at home with all things computers, bro. I cleared cache, deleted cookies, logged off and on, used different computers, tablets, mobiles, used different Internet connections (adsl, docsis, 3g/4g). Everything points at a server side problem (I suspect the invision power board TV is using) rather than something at my end. Maybe something with my user permissions, but this can only be fixed by admin.
August 30, 201411 yr Popular Post Under my Admin account the image displays inline correctly. Under my system test account, non-privileged, I do get the same as the OP and just the text and the error message both on Chrome and IE. Will have to dig deeper.

When not logged in the server script delivers the inline link as http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=281147 When authenticated and cookified, the script delivers the link as http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/uploads/monthly_08_2014/post-37101-0-09760800-1409214549.jpg You are definitely logged in, but the script is delivering a different url. Can you verify that the first link is the one you are indeed encountering? If so, your account seems to be schizophrenic. Edited August 30, 201411 yr by RichCor
August 30, 201411 yr Author lol @ Schizophrenic! Yep, I get this http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=281147
August 30, 201411 yr interestingly enough, that "...attach_id=281147" link actually gives me a picture when logged in. AND the link displays the image on another browser that isn't logged in. I'm wondering, are all your connections being issued Carrier Grade NAT IP addresses?

I'm wondering, are all your connections being issued Carrier Grade NAT IP addresses? This is the trace from my DOCSIS: http://grabilla.com/0481e-987d8c29-15e4-4681-b93d-452b9a90a083.html I also see the picture if I use the direct URL on another browser when not logged in. Since Tywais could reproduce the same problem I have on one of his accounts, I still believe the issue is server side and will have to be fixed on the software. Maybe Invision support should be contacted...? http://www.invisionpower.com/support/ Edited August 30, 201411 yr by dr_lucas
August 30, 201411 yr Very odd that you can view the image (...attach_id=281147) through a direct link, but it doesn't render inline. <a class="resized_img" rel="lightbox[8309044]" id="ipb-attach-url-281147-0-59432000-1409414171" href="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/uploads/monthly_08_2014/post-37101-0-09760800-1409214549.jpg" title="maaragaug006-550x382.jpg - Size: 84.71KB, Downloads: 3"><img itemprop="image" id="ipb-attach-img-281147-0-59432000-1409414171" style="width:200;height:139" class="attach" width="200" height="139" alt="maaragaug006-550x382.jpg" src="http://1-ps.googleusercontent.com/x/www.thaivisa.com/static.thaivisa.com/forum/uploads/monthly_08_2014/[*] xpost-37101-0-09760800-1409214549_thumb.jpg.pagespeed.ic.xsZJHQHMKS.jpg"></a> [*] link purposely broken with break to prevent force wide screen I 'was' going to suggest they because your DOCSIS router is using CGNAT (hop 2 and 3) that your Outgoing/Facing connection to the Internet is the same IP address as many other DOCSIS router accessing ThaiVisa and that this might cause some authentication confusion, BUT since you CAN access the graphic using the "http: // www.thaivisa....attach_id=281147" link then that would disprove that theory. (Well, unless there are time you DO get the graphic and other times DON'T get the graphic). Your browser is interpreting that graphic as broken, displays the broken icon, and displays the TITLE text instead. But why it this graphic broken, and Jingthing's avatar working fine? OK... what do you get when you try to display THIS link in your current browser: (testing to see if issue with googleusercontent) http://1-ps.googleusercontent.com/x/www.thaivisa.com/static.thaivisa.com/forum/uploads/monthly_08_2014/xpost-37101-0-09760800-1409214549_thumb.jpg.pagespeed.ic.xsZJHQHMKS.jpg Edited August 30, 201411 yr by RichCor
August 30, 201411 yr Author Clicking the link in your quote I see a small thumbnail of the pic: http://grabilla.com/0481e-4a6d6ca7-61e7-499f-bef6-4af0987a9c13.html
August 30, 201411 yr Sorry, I take back the code text and 3rd paragraph I posted in #13. I thought it might of been a broken image link, but that 16x16 graphic, bold link text, bold filesize, and normal '3 downloads' is actually html code being sent by the ThaiVisa server -- the same html a browser would be sent to someone not logged in. <p><a href="http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=281147" title="Download attachment"><img alt="Attached File" width="16" height="16" src="http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_extra/mime_types/gif.gif"></a> <a href="http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=281147" title="Download attachment"><strong>maaragaug006-550x382.jpg</strong></a> <span class="desc"><strong>84.71KB</strong></span> <span class="desc lighter">3 downloads</span></p> maaragaug006-550x382.jpg 84.71KB 3 downloads schizophrenic. Would be interesting if we could login on a connection that wasn't CGNAT.
August 30, 201411 yr Author If the connection is the cause - how come Tywais reproduce it on a regular account but not on his Admin account. I assume he uses the same configuration on both? Must be server side, bro. Edited August 30, 201411 yr by dr_lucas
August 31, 201411 yr Are you up for an experiment? Install the "HOLA! Better Internet" browser extension proxy service and then when on the ThaiVisa website set Hola! to use the US , or the 'other' Singapore proxy. I want to see how ThaiVisa IPB treats your connection when you're using another outward facing IP address.
August 31, 201411 yr Author I got both HMA VPN and vyprVPN, both with OPENVPN (256bit). Will they do for your experiment instead of the HOLA extension?
August 31, 201411 yr Yes, anything that will eventually give you a unique IP address that no other ThaiVisa member is currently/concurrently using. I want to know if, when using any of several VPNs, do the pages all render the same as when using your Direct Interent (DOCSIS modem connection). When viewing your active TV thread test page: http://www.thaivisa....-2#entry8309044 Does ThaiVisa deliver the text: maaragaug006-550x382.jpg 84.71KB 3 downloads or does is deliver the thumbnail to render as an 'attachment' or a direct jpg/gif url?
August 31, 201411 yr Author Same behavior with and without VPN connections, tried multiple locations on each service.
August 31, 201411 yr And you don't see the two thumbnails I posted in my previous post, either direct on the DOCSIS connection or through any VPN/Proxy location? I wonder where Tywais went?
August 31, 201411 yr Author This is what I see: http://grabilla.com/0481f-6d3b0849-546d-4a53-a9ba-2d853400edd4.html I wonder too...
August 31, 201411 yr So it's working here. I assume you can click either graphic to see the original? And you're still only seeing the 'text' but not the thumbnail link on Jingthing's original post http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/755451-netanyahu-declares-victory-in-gaza/page-2#entry8309044
August 31, 201411 yr Under my Admin account the image displays inline correctly. Under my system test account, non-privileged, I do get the same as the OP and just the text and the error message both on Chrome and IE. Will have to dig deeper. Tywais, did you find anything on your dig? (Quoting someone is one way to get their attentions -- if they have that option enabled)
August 31, 201411 yr And you don't see the two thumbnails I posted in my previous post, either direct on the DOCSIS connection or through any VPN/Proxy location? I wonder where Tywais went? Sorry but still here and watching the topic, just quite busy on a software design project. Also tried VPN and still see the issue. Just now remote connected to my university work station and using Chrome logged in to my test account. Different behavior there. Don't see the thumbnail but the text of the image link but clicking on it doesn't give me the permission error but displays the image but without the lightbox. That is, it shows in the browser window by itself. That would make me suspect a java issue but my Admin account uses the same FF and Java engine and works. Is this the only image that you see this happening in or do you see it regularly in other topics? Might scan through some topics in the Photography forum for attachments and see if this shows up more than once.
August 31, 201411 yr Author Oddly, this seems to happen only with Jingthing's attachments on this topic, sometimes his attachments on other similar topics. I tried the photography forum, all the attachments/thumbs and lightboxes work just fine. I tried some of his other attachments on other topics and they work just fine. Here is another example that doesn't work: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/755451-netanyahu-declares-victory-in-gaza/page-12#entry8322790 Edited August 31, 201411 yr by dr_lucas
September 1, 201411 yr The problem should be corrected now. A permission configuration error when the World News forum was set up. George fixed it.
