4,600 nominations for Reform Council, EC says

BANGKOK: -- Almost 4,600 candidates have registered in the hope of being part of the National Reform Council. With 4,584 nominated so far, the Election Commission expects it get more than 5,000 names before its deadline on Tuesday, EC official Boonyakiat Rakchartcharoen said yesterday. The agency has hosted the registration of NRC candidates for the past 17 days.

So far, 235 candidates from non-profit entities have registered, 215 were representatives of national reform areas and 20 were nominees for Bangkok and other provinces, Boonyakiat said.

Education reform is the area with the most candidates (401), with social reform second (344). Mass media had the lowest (105), Boonyakiat said.

The People's Democratic Reform Committee, meanwhile, has set up a body to get information from experts in various fields in shape reform ideas, which will be put to the NRC, PDRC spokesman Ekanat Promphan said.

Fun aside, the thing Thailand really needs now is cooperation with NRC and CDC. It would seem the only possible way forward. Furthermore for those who doubt the NCPO's intentions, the work of NRC with input from the Thai population will be the only way to 'convince' the NCPO of the need to implement.

I've said before some may not realise what demanding reforms and getting them will really mean, especially the "for ALL and binding to ALL"
