ED Visa report. Back from Laos.

Featured Replies

Me and my wife got an email from our school saying our ED Visa paperwork was finished and was told to leave the country and get our papers processed at a Thai embassy.

We headed over to Lao on a overnight bus. Bangkok, Mochit to Nong Khai. And went through the departure side of Thailand and into Laos.

Took a tuk tuk to the Thai embassy, waited for 2 hours until they were ready to open and just played the waiting game for our number to be called.

Our number gets called and we go to the counter, the offcier handling the paperwork thoroughly checks it and hands us both another ticket to go pay at another counter a building over.

My wife paid 2000 baht and I paid 0 baht.

At this point I got really scared they didn't charge me because they were going to deny me my Visa but upon further researching the web I find out S. Koreans don't have to pay any visa fees. So yay for me.

We pick up our passports the next day with our ED Visa on it and head to the border to return to Thailand.

The immigration gave us no hassle. No questions. Just stamped us for 90 days and stamped "USED" on our ED Visa.

Which I am guessing they will put another ED Visa on our passport when we check in at immigration on our 90 day.

Hope this helps to some people.

Wow great news thanks for the report.

I assume it was the Thai consulate in Vientiane where you got your single-entry non-O visas.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I got an Ed visa for a year once, it was actually a 90 day visa. Then every 90 days during the year in question I went to immigration and they 'gave' me an extension stamp for another 90 days.

The school will prepare a whole folder full of paperwork to take with you when the time for extension comes.

I had a similar experience last week 27th Aug, through Savanahket in Laos. No probs either.

Not a "check-in", and not a visa. it's called extension of stay, lasts 90 days and will cost you Bt. 1,900. No fee waiver on that.

Getting the visa at the embassy is not the current issue I expect to cause problems. What I'd like to hear is some current reports of people getting their 2nd and 3rd ED visas, and their experiences entering back through immigration, both by land and air.

Also, I remember hearing they'll be requiring proof of income for ED visas now. Has anyone experienced this, and what are acceptable forms of this proof if its needed?

Thank you very much for the report. Many people will appreciate it.

I went at the end of my second ED-visa, for my 3rd. I also had some back to back Cambodian runs from 2 years ago, on the 2 week land waiver, still no issues what so ever at Savanahket Consulate or when I went through the boarder crossing. Never even had to show proof of income, this was on Wednesday 27th August 2014.

Thanks for the report but you shouldn't expect any problems obtaining an ED visa from laos, all that scaring business has finished.

Nice to hear positive feedback about visa's.

Just wanted to share my experience for people that might fear the process is all.

Especially with the crackdown being harder on koreans and some other nationals as well.

I made 1 border run prior to getting the ED Visa and went to Myanmar. Stayed 4 days and came back no problem. And the ED Visa went with no problems as well.

No proof of income needed for me anyways.

I had one of the agent guys fill out my application for 50 baht in Vientiane. And he put down some wrong info that I later realized too late. Still no problem.

At the border immigration coming back on the Thai side, the officers look mean and annoyed but don't be scared of them. I feel like they are just tired and worn out from the constant routine they go through to get their job done. They will crack a smile at you pretty easily actually.but until they so they can be pretty intimidating.

It's hardly ever been a problem getting an ED visa (and paying 2000B for it), it's once you've paid and try to enter the country that you could be challenged by immigration.

Thai people are not crazy, they make you pay first

Most people get 2 entry tourist visas there. Normally up to 3 of them back to back can be obtained there.
