Tesco Lotus Online

I usually like to get out and do my own shopping, but last week I was a bit housebound and needed to stock up with some groceries. I decided to give Tesco's online delivery service a go and signed up. Signing up was very easy and all details entered in a few minutes. I must say that overall, I am very impressed with this service, starting with the user friendly website and navigation through the supplies. The option to add things to the trolley, reduce or take away items all done with a click. At the end when you check out there are options to pay online or pay by cash or card at the door, I chose the latter. You choose a time slot and the delivery charge is 60 baht, I chose between 10-12. Immediately you check out you will receive an email with all your order nicely laid out in English. The best part is that you can amend your order up or down, until 11pm on the day before delivery, which I thought was quite handy since I added a late night bottle of scotch. Every time you amend the order you receive an updated email. My delivery arrived at 10-45, two very nice, polite lads. They absolutely refused a tip, pointing out to a card which states they are not allowed to receive tips, but instead you can call a number and give feedback. I paid by debit card they had one of those little hand held gizmos. The receipt was nicely printed out on A4 in English listing all the items. Overall, I would say that this is an excellent service and for anyone who doesn't want to go and shop or can't, it really is worth giving a try. Well done Tesco.

I would like to add that I ordered chicken, vegetables and fruit, thinking that maybe I wouldn't get the freshest. The chicken came on a polystyrene platter covered and really fresh. All the fruit and veg were in perfect condition. There were a couple of items that were substituted to as near as they could, but if you don't want the substituted items you can refuse them. It's all laid out on the bill.

My only complaint about the Tesco home delivery is that they insist on doing the substitutions for you. It can be a minor hassle if you use a credit card to order. It would be perfect if they had a "fill or kill" option

An added benefit that most are not aware of is that your order will be fulfilled from different stock than your local store, thereby increasing your chances of getting popular items that may not be available there

Yes, I agree that a fill or kill option would be a good idea.

I suppose I didn't realise the hassle as I paid on delivery, with a debit card and I believe I could refuse any substitutions if I didn't want them.

I think debit cards are a recent innovation since when they first started only credit cards were taken, so it may no longer be a hassle with their substitutions being declined

Does anyone know where Rimping is at, with it's proposed online ordering / delivery service?

I was going to ask if they offer online delivery and from their website - 'A selection of Rimping products will be available for ordering on line during mid- to late-2014.' I certainly would be using it often, more so then Lotus as there is a large BigC only a minute or two away from me.

I think we will be quite lucky to be able to order online from both these stores, the times they are a changing.

As I said, I prefer to go myself, but when I was laid up I must admit that I found it a really useful service.

I'm sure there are many housebound people who would benefit from these services and the neat thing about Tesco is that you can for example, start ordering on Monday, book a delivery slot say Friday and then you can keep adding things as you notice things missing in the cupboard or delete things if you want to. So in a way, for anyone housebound, it can be a fun, non rush way to shop and the delivery fee is only 60 Baht.

I opt to pay when stuff is delivered, you can use card or cash.

Useful Topic, Uptheos, I wasn't even aware that Tesco Thailand offered this option--used the service in UK on occasions--but for sure it cost more than 60Baht, but I can't remember.

I, too, much prefer wandering around aimlessly filling my trolley with stuff I don't really need, --this might actually mean that I only buy what I do need.

I think it's about a fiver for delivery in the UK and it's hard to get the spot you want. However, as you know in the UK there are loads of special offers for home delivery, like save 15 quid on a 75 quid spend and so many items for one pound or two for a pound. Walking around Tesco and Asda this summer, TBH I didn't find the prices excessive, e.g a kilo of Red Leicester for a fiver. Crusty bread and cheese, can't resist it. I know what you mean about wandering aimlessly and yes it does make you think more as I was adding things, deleting other stuff I really didn't need...all good fun.

I received an email from Khun Ramlah at Rimping customer service, in response to asking how the online shopping is coming along.

Dear Khun

Good to hear from you again.

We are aware of Tesco's online shopping service, and thank you for sharing and your confidence in our services.

We will personally advise you when we come close to going online. Meanwhile, we are dealing with the very complicated computer programme and the various technicalities which this involves - as you might imagine!
All going well we hope to have it up and running before the end of the year.

Meantime, thank you for your patience, and hope this email finds you well.
With kind regards,

Ramlah M Jafri
