Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport rehearses Ebola response procedure
By Digital Content

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Sept 9 -- The authorities in this southern Thai province rehearsed an Ebola response plan at Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport today.

According to Nakhon Si Thammarat Public Health Office Chief Dr Utumporn Kambhu na Ayudthaya, Nakhon Si Thammarat is one of the 15 provinces on the Ebola watch list published by the Ministry of Public Health.

Health professionals and officers of Nakhon Si Thammarat Public Health Office and Maharat Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital rehearsed procedures in preparation for possible Ebola cases arriving from abroad.

The procedure started with air traffic controllers receiving a report from an inbound flight that a suspected Ebola case was on board, followed with emergency response and coordination by concerned departments.

For handling of the patient, a medical team in protective suits began separating the suspected Ebola patient by transferring the patient to a special emergency vehicle to an infection control room at the hospital specially prepared for the disease control measures.

Medical team then worked on screening airport staff and other people with close contact with the patient, who will be monitored for his or her health condition for the following 21 days.

The exercise was ordered by the ministry to prepare for possible Ebola infected people who may arrive on a plane. (MCOT online news)

Malaysia mulls toll for Thai vehicles entering country

The Star/ANN - The Malaysian Government is studying the possibility of imposing a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) for vehicles entering Malaysia from Thailand.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said the move was aimed at curbing Thai van and taxi operators from misusing the privilege of being allowed to operate up to two kilometres inside the Malaysian border.

"Many Thai vehicles violate the rules by sending their passengers all the way to Kuala Lumpur.

"This has badly affected the income of our taxi drivers," he told a press conference at the Anti-Smuggling Unit Complex here Tuesday.

He hoped the ruling could be implemented from Jan 15 next year, when the VEP for vehicles entering from Singapore takes effect.

On Aug 1, Singapore increased VEP charges on foreign-registered vehicles entering the republic, from S$20 to S$35 daily, and for Goods Vehicle Permit from S$10 to S$40 monthly.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Malaysia would also impose the VEP on foreign vehicles entering the country from Singapore via Johor.
