BANGKOK: -- The doctor who is wanted in connection with the Japanese father of 15 surrogate children turned himself in to Lumpini police Monday night.

Dr Pisit Tantiwattanakul, owner of All IVF Clinic, came with his lawyers to give testimony on police suspicion that he provided illegal surrogacy service to the Japanese father, Mitsutoki Shigeta, now said to be father of 15 children.

The doctor, however, denied the charge, during almost two hours of giving testimonies to the police on surrogate babies of the Japanese father.

He insisted that he did not provide the service to him.

Dr Pisit s owner of All IVF Clinic of which its obstetrics and gynaecology service licence has been suspended.

He is facing charges which include operating a medical facility without proper documentation and neglecting to supervise medical personnel at the clinic to abide by medical professional regulations.

He also said he did not turn himself in immediately after he was summoned by the police because he had to take care of his cancer-stricken father and also had to prepare enough evidence to defend himself against the charges.

He said his clinic has legal operation licence and he also has obstetrics and gynaecology service licences.

He also said he would petition the Central Administration Court to revoke the unjustified regulations of the Medical Council of Thailand enforced on his clinic.

Lumpini police said they would allow his lawyers 30 days to return again for second testimony.

Meanwhile Mitsutoki Shigeta, the Japanese man now believed to have fathered at least 15 babies via Thai surrogate mothers,.

He earlier said he wanted as many children as possible to “help take care of his business and heritage.

He had his lawyer submit his DNA and documents to police to prove that he fathered nine babies found in a Lat Phrao condominium.

A police source said their investigation found 15 of the 16 children that Shigeta allegedly fathered were born since December 2012. Ten of them were twins and one was still being carried by the surrogate mother.

This has so much material for humour but I will confine myself to pointing out, as has been done so many times, that the doc proved what we always say about this ridiculous summons and extensions routine - he used the time to PREPARE A DEFENCE. End of ... !

I find it despicable that a man would use his father's illness as a partial excuse for executing a defence case. Utterly out of order.

Deny..deny...excuses ..excuses.........these people cannot admit to anything wrong.......

He's obviously made plenty of money with his clinic.....so many customers calling.....but unfortunately, Thailand has no laws wrt surrogacy........

His legal team is to provide more documents and statements relating to the case within 30 days. Two surrogate mothers employed by the clinic will also be summoned to testify to the police.
