Officials defend buying costly Government House microphones

BANGKOK, Sept 10 -- Public works department officials are defending their purchase of the costly microphones installed in the Government House conference room, saying the department actually saves the state about Bt14 million.

Sukhumband meets with UK ambassador over BMA projects

Army officers help flood-affected people

BANGKOK, 10 September 2014 (NNT) - Army officers are urgently assisting the flood-affected residents and getting rid of water hyacinth in natural water courses for better drainage.


Deputy spokesperson of the army Col.Sirichan Nga-thong said Prime Minister Ptayuth Chan-ocha, in his capacity as the army chief, had instructed army officers in the flood-affected provinces to work with relevant units in giving assistance to the locals by evacuating them and constructing flood barriers. Gen.Prayuth had also emphasized on urgent solutions to the problem of flooding in the Chao Phraya river basin, saying that water courses should be cleared of water hyacinth, especially those in the northern part of Bangkok and the vicinity.

As for the flooding situation in Sukhothai, the 3rd Army Area Command has sent officers to facilitate transportation and strengthen flood barriers. The province’s water level is decreasing.

Army officers have assessed and closely monitored the situation in flood-prone provinces such as Phichit, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok and Ayutthaya. They are on standby to promptly help the affected residents.

PHUKET: The Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) of the Royal Forestry Department is to report seven government officials to the police on suspicion that they were involved in the illegal granting of Chanote land ownership papers for land next to Freedom Beach.
