Where To Go For Some Relaxing Time ... ?

Hi ...

After I've found my apartment in september, I plan to leave for a few weeks of doing nothing. With a pile of travel brochures on my desk, having asked some people and browsed the web ... I still don't know where to go.

What I want: seaside and gorgeous beaches, good and affordable food, airconditioned rooms or cabins, other tourists but not too many, not too many backpackers (no offense) and some sort of nightlife.

  • I've been to Chaweng on Samui. It was a nice place, little too many backpackers but whatever. But I don't want to visit the same place again.
  • I've heard good things about Hua Hin, but I'm afraid it's too boring and chi-chi. Plus also, I've been warned about getting from 'outside resorts' to the actual city.
  • I think Pattaya is only about the go-go bars ... and while I enjoy hanging out in those places, I don't want to spend my entire trip doing that.
  • Koh Samet I'm told is a great place to go for some relaxing. But perhaps it's too basic for me?
  • Koh Phi Phi, Phuket and Krabi sound like a great combination of places ... but I'd prefer to stay near Bangkok and now blow my money on expensive airfares.

Any comments on the above or other suggestions? I'm especially interested in Samet and Hua Hin.

regards,

Rob

airfare is cheap ... or a VIP bus etc etc ... the overnight bus to Krabi is fine ... can get some sleep ... then there are inexpensive ferries to Phi Phi and on to Phuket

Koh Chang???

Thanks for posting the link again. I wonder though, why are you suggesting I look at Koh Chang as an option, while you're clearly disappointed with it? :-)

Yes!

I'm ambivalent about the place.....at the moment it's pretty quiet...rainy season etc...But it is an alternative to Samet as it's only a couple more hours down the road.

You may find it too quiet. Last time I was there I had a 25 minute drive to get to the bars in Whitesands.

With Koh Chang I think it’s mainly an issue of how yet another island is being needlessly spoilt, and people seem oblivious to how they are contributing to its demise.

There are some good, quiet resorts around Pattaya…there’s also Bang Saen, but very few foreigners to talk to. Very popular with Thais at week-ends or on holidays.
