Is there anything similar to Crossfit?

I just moved to Chiang Mai and I am looking to get in shape. I did a bootcamp program back in the states and I really liked it because it forces you to really push yourself, which to be honest I just don't do when I work out on my own. I was interested in joining some type of fitness group that offers group workouts with high intensity, but something that can be altered for those (myself included) who are REALLY out of shape. I was going to go with Crossfit, but they only offer their mandatory introductory classes on Saturdays, and I am only available Mon-Fri. The only thing I can find online are places that offer 7+ day holiday camps or retreats, with prices that are way out of my budget. I'd like something to do regularly, not as a holiday retreat. Does anyone know of a program that sounds like it fits what I am looking for?

Sorry OP, but in my days and I carry on now, I do as many push ups as I can.

Also free exercise, that you probably learned from school.

It strengthens your muscles it makes you loose weight and you can do them whenever you fancy.

We didn't know about crossfits or bootcamp programs, but we did survive all right and we did maintain a good shape.

Please be careful when starting crossfit when you are out of shape. The TV program NY Med recently featured a young woman who nearly lost her kidneys after overdoing it on crossfit on her initial day. It only takes one day! I suggest starting with something moderate and working up to the crossfit level.

The suggestion to join a muay thai gym is an excellent one. This is what I have been doing to get in shape and it is excellent. You will experience high intensity cardio as well as running long distances, situps, pushups, etc. Find a good gym and this will help you tremendously.

There's no need to worry about starting Crossfit when you are out of shape (I did). The workouts are scalable and you just do as much as you can. Of course the point is to push yourself, that's how you get fitter, but you've got to have common sense. Just like any other exercise programme.

OP, there is a FB group called Chiang Mai fitness, maybe you can find a work out buddy there or advice about suitable classes.

Run up the Pilgrim's Trail to Wat Doi Suthep and back every day.

That'll sort you out.

Way tougher than crossfit, and it's free.

You don't even need to carry your own water as Wat Palaat (on the way) and Wat Doi Suthep (at the top) give it away.

The Pilgrim's Trail, the ultimate stair master!

Great exercise and it's free!
