HeijoshinCool
Returning to the States early October. No immediate plans to come back, but will book round trip. What is the best way to find a cheap flight, on, preferably, a Japanese airline, or Singapore Airways? Return can be any date.

JLCrab
Via Orbitz you can go RT Korean via Seoul to LAX on a A380 RT for about $1100 and then a connector LAX to SLC RT is less than $200 (OCT 6 / MAR 17 2015 dates) Edited September 13, 2014 by JLCrab

phuketrichard
I flew China eastern last Nov. it was the cheapest available an although the food sucked i always had at least 3 seats the whole way ( Phuket- Shanghai-SFO) Singapore is never cheap, Asiana and Korean are good as well use https://www.kayak.com/ http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ and than go check the airlines website. 55Jay
I used Momondo which has a bar graph feature showing route price fluctuations by day/month. Sure others have similar features, just the one I used for my recent trip BKK-LAX during summer high season - $1,079 return on Korean Air. On the site front page, scroll down a bit and there's more "Flight Insight" data in a pie graph too. http://cfse.momondo.com/flights/bkk/lax/flights-from-bangkok-to-los-angeles.html
dddave
Check individual airline websites as well as the online booking services....sometimes short lived promotions pop-up on airline websites such as when certain flights are filling slower than the algorithms say they should. Don't rule out travel agencies as well, especially large, well established ones, Sometimes they get promotions that don't go online. The big problem with online airline brokers is when something goes wrong and you need to get a refund...often very difficult and frustrating. HeijoshinCool
Thanks for all the info. Is there some sort of wholesaler; last-minute-must-be-ready-to-fly-in-24-hours kind of outfit?
meand
Momondo and kayak. Kayak you can set up daily alerts. There are round trips in the 800 to 900 range right now. You can't beat that so when you find it just purchase. Edited September 14, 2014 by meand

JLCrab
Just to note that American Airlines-Advantage program is the last US major carrier to award bonus points via air miles and not purchase price. I bought a ticket for this November but my previous 2 trips to the USA were award travel on Japan Airlines BKK to JFK then AA to Florida taxes paid only: American has announced no plans to move away from awarding frequent flier miles in exchange for actual miles flown. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/14/upshot/the-fadeout-of-the-mileage-run.html Edited September 17, 2014 by JLCrab

Thank you... There is a large one in the shopping concourse above the Sukhumvit/Asok MRT station, above Citibank...I forget the name. Also, check the Thursday edition of the Bangkok Post travel section...many ads from many agencies. Be aware that most of the prices they list do not include taxes and surcharges.
