Flooding in Phichit continues

BANGKOK, 14 September 2014 (NNT) - The flood situation in Phichit is still critical with three districts having been affected by floods so far. The province’s main river Yom continues to overflow.

The three flood-affected districts include Sam Ngam, Pho Prathap Chang and Bueng Narang. 15 houses in Bueng Narang have been submerged by the flood waters from the first two districts. Although the flood water level is not as high as the previous year, it has prevented people from using roads and damaged some farmland.

One of the most affected sub-districts, Bang Rai, is affected by flooding and drought every year. Residents there had to live on the roads during the flooding last year.

40-million baht budget granted for study and design of Blue Line extension

9-14-2014-2-19-49-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Mass Rapid Transit Authority has been allocated with a 40 million baht budget to conduct study and designing of the 8-kilometre extension of the Blue Line from Tha Phra to Buddhamonthon Sai 4.

MRTA governor Mr Yongsith Rohsrikul said that he expected the study and project designing to be completed and submitted to the cabinet for consideration next year so that an open bid for the construction of the 14 billion baht of the Blue Line extension could be staged the following year.

The Blue Line or the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon line, the first MRT line, was officially open to the public on July 3, 2004. The 21-km line runs from Hua Lamphong to Bangsue. Currently the terminus at Bangsue is being extended 1.2 kilometre to Tao Poon as part of the Purple Line.

Informed source, meanwhile, said that it is still unclear whether or not a private firm would be selected to operate the extension line from Tha Phra to Buddhamonthon Sai 4 but it could be possible that BMCL which is currently operating the Blue Line between Hua Lamphong and Bangsue might be chosen.

The source pointed out that it might not be economically feasible for a private firm to operate just the extension line which is only eight kilometers long unless the line is further extended.

Mr Wasant Kongchan, president of Modern Property Consultant, said that real estate developers have been scooping up land along the extension route especially in Bang Wa-Petchkasem area for their condominium projects.

The price of land in Bang Wa-Petchkasem which used to fetch 95,000 baht per square wah could go up to 500,000 baht/square wah.
