The authorities should pay a visit to Koh Samui if they truly want to get the foreign gangs out of Thailand. Here there are British and Russian Gangs and some Danish as well. Mostly into Drugs and extortion, Money laundering going on here as well.. and hiding out from the law... The Authorities have turned a blind eye on Koh Samui and Lots of the criminals are hanging and hiding out here...

Wake Up DSI and Army....

I think it must be a coincidence that Samui is Suthep's backyard as well as the only tourist destination with strong maffia presence, massive encroaching, illegal beach vendors etc. just like Phuket, yet the Army has not been clamping down on anything at all.....

Let alone the omnipresent drug dealing and using on Koh Pangan, also left alone by the Army and also an island belonging to Surat Thani province...

"Natee said Thailand allowed easy entry into country to accommodate foreigners. "

Really? That's why it's done? Nothing at all to do with getting hold of all that tourist money then? It's just done to accommodate those wicked foreigners.

How sweet.

Lets go deeper ... Did the have the correct visa or even worse .. was they on an overstay ... this will have the elite tv posters shaking in their boots ....

The Colombians scouted rich housing estates to break in and steal valuables. Some of them also cracked bank safe boxes. Natee said the Mexicans, Guatemalans and Peruvians focused on car theft and stealing from houses, hotels and jewellery fairs.

To they really talked about the one case two years ago where they arrested a three Colombians. big crime gang..

If you compare 266 foreigners in prisons with how many thai are in foreign prisons tongue.png

...have no idea how many Thai persons in non-Thai prisons-do please tell us....

I've met several Western guys here for 10-15 years - ALL making US$300-$800K per year phone selling bullshit stock to Europeans and Aussies.

Why are they operating here? Because they can buy SIM cards at the 7-11 - and operate with an UNTRACEABLE phones. One thief carries a bag with 10 phones in it AND BRAGS ABOUT IT!.

Not one of them EVER paid a Thai official off! They all have the stolen money sent to the "company bank account" in another country - and then bring US dollars back here in cash. I won't divulge their smuggling method - but it is the easiest way you could imagine. They even brag about that!

Is Thailand an Insular and Xenophobic society , most certainly. Are the vast majority of Thais largely ignorant of the world outside of Thailand , yes. Has nationalism and blaming Johnny Foreigner been a driving force for pretty much every Junta ever , you betcha !

Perhaps some of us do seem sensitive to percieved xenophobia , but is it surprising when history is on our side !

Meanwhile, Immigration initiates a "crackdown" affecting mostly harmless, honest, lawful foreigners and creates a climate of uncertainty and confusion. The foreign criminal ratbags continue to operate with impunity, unaffected by border runs, work permits, etc.

I agree. There is where immigration should be targeting specifics! In addition, race can be generalized as well...they know what races are more prone to violence and crime in Thailand. Sorry, but a certain amount of discrimination is justified in these matters. Immigration has to figure-out a system that doesn't generalize across the board. There are a lot of decent people/farang in Thailand and they should not be affected in any manner whatsoever..

Wrong. Immigration's role is to regulate the entry of foreigners and their stay within the country. It is not their job to fight crime. That is the job of the police force. However, the police continue to fail miserably at doing their jobs.

Anyone who has been in thailand for any length of time will have first hand accounts of seeing police stopping law abiding people for money payments, but at the same time letting obvious law breakers go free.

In reality many frontline police are weak. It's easier to shake down honest people for bribe money than it is to get money out of habitual law breakers. That's why hardened criminals laugh at Thai laws. Not for any other reason.

Over 30 years here and never had a problem with criminals or police. Ive been cheated a few times but I was also cheated in UK and i know several forang with business's here long term never paid a bribe or had a problem. Ive paid odd police man only because its less trouble than going down to police station to pay the fine but also just accepted the ticket when they obviously wanted a bribe. All fairly petty stuff. Ive had some try intimidation but only when I've done wrong (like over limit on a nought out and yes i should not do that). Ive offered bribes to officials to save taxes and they have been accepted and yes its bad i did it but if its saves a few hindered thousand baht so be it. Ive done worse in UK and seen more corruption in UK to be honest long ago after the war.

I think the only forang who have a problem are those involved in shady things like running a girly bar or brothel or treading on toes of thais. Those like me who are careful to leave thais to themselves and dont ever compete or threaten them. I did once or twice have a gang and headman threaten when in dispute with a third party thai and when i just said ok and went to police the police (paid by other side of course) were quite aggressive but in end i acted like a dumb forang and pretended the police where good guys and so they gave up and then so other side saved face gave some minor amount and even had police touting to all see forang has lost. Funny just 100 baht or so instead of 20,000 demanded but if it came to it id pay 20,000 if they pushed it to real aggression instead of just barking

Fact drugs go through customs, after bribe is paid sold around Bangkok like candy. You got ivory trade endangered animal trade bear gall bladders, tiger skins, and peckers All for Chinese market. Russians and Nigerans useing mules to rat hole drugs through immigration. Police in on most of the action Russian boiler rooms all over Bangkok. You got one Farang who can be seen driveing around on a Harley got police in back pocket He is into credit card fraud, skimming counterfeiting. Protection racket. I'm not blind you hear people speak openly as if it is no big deal about there crimes. Like it is badge of honor. Police won't do a thing because to much money changing hands but if the cops found out they only get a slight fraction of the ill gotten gains heads would roll. I figure for every baht they give the police they make 1000 times more.

Nothing lasts forever and everything is in a constant state of flux. Some day Thailand will evolve out of such corruption, when I have no idea and it will not go away 100%, but one day these people won't be able to do such things. It may take a century but it's inevitable.

That's really comforting to know.

I really like how they blame these gangs on their easy entry into thailand. If they even bothered to look the USA and Aus and UK have the same problems in their countries and in greater numbers. Just wait till the triads and yakuza get here.

Yeah what about the motorbike gangs like the Outlaws in Bangkok? They dont count?

I saw two Hells Angles, riding in Chiang Mai, yesterday. Thailand is basically an easy country for foreign criminals to conduct business. The Thai police have never been accused of being crime fighters.

What were they riding and what Chapter were they from assuming you saw their patches/colors to determine they were HA's??????blink.png

Aren't they just a dirty bunch of has-been greasers who like to think they are in charge of something mainly because they (used to?) provide security for the boiler room boys?

They are very similar to some Thai thugs that get mentions here in that they have to hang out in a group because one overweight-middle-aged-balding-on-top-with-a-straggly-grey-ponytail is useless security on his own.

Nope, the Outlaws are much more than greasers. You may be referring to some of the benign MC's that just like to ride and many of whom raise lots of money for charity (Jesters for example).

OutLaws MC club HQ San Diego. California is as far from a Charitable group as you can get. They are an international crime group similar to all the rest of the MC groups out there. Of course some more powerful than others. Gypsy Jokers, Satins Slaves, Iron Horsemen, Banditos on and on.laugh.png

They've been here longer than the rest. Triads have been in Thailand since the 1700's and today they bring a lot of the counterfeit stuff in from China but they have not really been a powerful organisation since the 1950's and are now more into petty crime and some brutal violence. Ah Kong ran the golden triangle from the 70's through to the 90's but they are finished now. Yakuza have been in Bangkok since the 80's, in the past they have been involved in Yaba, extortion, stolen cars and today they are involved in the sex industry.

I don't believe I got that memo or their newsletter.sad.png Have you been googling or wikipedian again???

Let's do a study on Thai criminal gangs and you can easily add 2 zeroes to that number. But, to keep the peace, lets do it the Argentinian way: blame the foreigners! w00t.gif

At least the Thai gangs are keeping it at home....might be good for Thailand if the Farang gangs did the same.........
