I am 36, Swiss married to Thai wife with 15 month son.

We are relocating our home to Thailand end of the year. My wife and son have thai/swiss nationality so no problem for them.

My work takes me to europe between June-December. In this time I like to visit one week here one week there.

When my work is finished usually from Dec - May I plan to stay in thailand until my work cycle starts again.

Before I had dual entry tourist Visas issued in Switz but I heard they are cracking down on border re-entries.

If I opened a business in thailand and had a business visa would this work for me?

Thanks in advance for efforts.

There is no crackdown on visa re-entry.

You can get a multiple entry visa in e.g Savannakhet Laos, then 60 days extension, total almost 5 months in country.

Or a year-long extension of stay, need to show 400K bt in a Thai bank for 2 months.

If you are saying that during the seven months from June to December you are alternating one week in Thailand with your Thai wife and son and one week outside Thailand, in Europe, the ideal visa for you is the multiple-entry non-immigrant visa category O (non-O visa) for the purpose of visiting your Thai wife and child. Apply for it at any any Thai consulate in Switzerland.

With this visa, you will receive permission to stay for 90 days and on every entry into Thailand you will receive permission to stay for 90 days. If occasionally you wish to stay longer, eg five months from January to May, you can apply for a 60-day extension at your local immigration office in Thailand, or alternatively make a border run to a neighbouring country for a new permission to stay for 90 days.

If you wish to work in Thailand, you can get a one-year extension of stay for the reason of living with your wife and child and then apply for a work permit.

Maestro": "With this visa, you will receive permission to stay for 30 days". It should say 90 days not 30 shouldn't it?

should that not read 17 months [not 5 months] ?

I have had a non O multiple visa many times. It's a one year visa that gives you permission to stay 90 Days on each entry. So you can use it for nearly 15 months stay in Thailand. And you wrote it gives you permission to stay for 30 Days ?????? Was that a typo ???

//Edit by Maestro: yes, it was a typo.

So Category O Visa sounds like what I need. So getting a extension there is no risky they refuse (worried about these crackdowns I'm reading about).

There would be no problem getting the extension as long as you meet all the requirements.

The only "crack down" has been on in/out visa exempt entries.

Right. I'm going to correct my post to prevent a misunderstanding.
