Come across this bread in one of the foreign news papers recently, have tried it and it came

out better than expected, very easy and fast to make, and the results are pleasantly surprising..

they called it Margaret's Irish Soda beard...

Turn oven to Max 230 C.
1. mix 350 ml milk with 1 table spoon white vinegar and put aside for 10-15 min.
2. mix 250 gr all purposes flour with 250 gr whole-wheat flour,
1 tea spoon salt, 1 tea spoon sugar and 1 tea spoon baking soda
and sift all in to a mixing bowl,
3. add the milk to the flour mix, add one egg and 2 table spoon olive
oil, mix well 1-2 min. using hand or wooden spoon, the mix should be wet and sticky,
4. transfer the mix to flat baking tray with baking paper, and form it into round shape, dip hand in flour to be able to form the shape,
5. drop the oven to 200c and bake for 25- 30 min. let cool down
for half hour... eat with butter cheese spread and smoked Salmon..
Enjoy...
If not sure about any of the above, PM me....

I make it quite often and sometimes stir in some raisins. I actually bake it in my "crock" pot rather than the oven as it doesn't heat up the kitchen Easy to make and good!

Ezzra...or anybody...where do you get your whole wheat flour from?....been looking for it for years.

Have a Nice Day.

Exactly. Many recipes like this have been hoiked directly off a website or out of a book. Stuff like "a packet of yeast, a cup of rye flour, kosher salt, ...." .... We don't all live next door to a Walmart.

I have found that you must improvise, juggle, try again. Not using the correct flour is fun.

In the soda bread that I make. picture post #2, I just use "Kite" all purpose flour and it comes out great. I have a full size gas oven but I make it in my crock pot to keep the heat down in the kitchen. I just grease the crock and plop the loaf in with a cross wise cut on the top. It takes about 1.5 hours on high.

Sorry for the late reply whole wheat flour can be bought at Villa, Top and big C supermarkets

in Bkk, if your abode is in the boondocks than you might have a bit of a problem there..

Ezzra, Cheers for the info.

I live in Mahasarakham and unfortunately the nearest big C is 30 km away and no whole wheat flour to be had,

I’ve even tried Tops and Makro in Khon Kean (75km away) and again no luck. No Villa stores up here in Gods country.

I have a friend coming to Pattaya in November time, so, I will probably go down to see him there, and make it a shopping

trip as well. (I lived in Pattaya for 2 years so know the place quite well)

I make bread about 2 – 3 times a week…it’s just now and then I get the craving for some good old, whole wheat bread….

Never mind, as me Mam used to say “Make do and mend”

Thanks for the reply.

Have a Nice Day.
