Weird question.

My friend who lives here in Thailand who from the USA wants to name his cat "Majesty".

I got to thinking.. Is that a taboo?

It's an english word but ........

Would other similar phrases or nicknames like 'your excellency' be banned or something?

No there's no taboo in naming a pet the English word "Majesty". Using any English words will not be of any problems either. King, Queen, "Your Highness" etc etc...

However, using a Thai word which has anything to do with royals is highly inappropriate in Thailand.

I can't help but thinking the association with lèse majesté is too close for comfort, this being a very controversial subject in the Kingdom associated with the royal family.

I don't think that would be any problem; sounds like a pretty lofty name for a cat though.

On the subject of pet names, I know ลาย must be the most common nickname for dogs and cats in Thailand, but what other names are popular?

You know, the Thai counterparts to 'Rover', Snowball, etc...

Majesty?

Hmmm... shouldn't be any problem with English, but for real?

I kinda don't understand when you call your cat, Majesty... kitty kitty kitty dinner is served...

Well, try "My Lord" as we are cat slaves.

p.s. I actually know H.E., therefore, I cannot name my cat like that. (H.E. of another country, worked with for a while)
