dBrown
How many threads do we need on this? Is 1 not satisfactory or do wee need a fresh one every day with a different title? Yes, and there should be another thread about this EVERY day on EVERY Western based forum as well, so that people who even consider spending their holidays in Thailand, are made aware of the risks and incompetence of the officials in the country they think will be a safe destination for their holidays. BudRight
Sad as it is, that two young people were murdered, I find the Thai-hatred on this thread almost more sad!! The airport is open for departures!! So, if you don't want to be raped and murdered go home?
coffeeman
So this article repeatedly quotes the police as claiming multiple assailants. Is this based on a possible lead or a result of the investigative process? if you ask me.. BAN the full moon party all together.. it's out of control now.. use to be cool, now its just IBIZA in SEA, its a drinking fest!

BudRight
it would appear the police have done a good job of muddying the waters and with comments by superiors that steered the so called investigation directly towards foreigners, people are reminded of violent incidents in the past both on this island and in other locations within Thailand that were never properly investigated due to people of influence being involved it seems not a lot has changed in Thailand in this respect. Oh yeah, like the little girl on the train who was murdered and the police never caught her killer. Oh wait, they had a confession in about 4 days. Good bit of police work. A confession is a good piece of police work? Is that sarcasm? A DNA match would be good police work. Now that they've made it clear they can do that, no-one will believe it when some Cambodian guy confesses and they mysteriously offer no DNA evidence. Toknarok
If the Thai authorities were prepared to spend money on the establishment of a well equipped professional forensic investigation team, instead of wasting it on useless bomb detectors, blimps and rice schemes. then debacles such as the present investigation may well be avoided. Local uniformed police, no matter how high their rank are not qualified to run an investigation such as this. If these murders had happened in the UK or Australia would the local uniformed police chief be running the show? No way, a specialised, highly trained CID/Forensic team would be flown in at once. What do we get here in Thailand, local coppers bumbling around ruining the scene, screwing up the collection of evidence, whilst uninformed clowns state that the assailant could not possibly be Thai, and that the victims brought it upon themselves because of their behaviour. The mind boggles. I have a feeling that only luck will solve this case now. Edit: Typo Edited September 19, 2014 by Toknarok
ikke
Right, we all love Thailand. Thai people just suffer just as much from the extortion, corruption, laziness and unprofessionalism from the Thai police. Even worse than that! If the victims would be Thai the case would probably already be closed by now. PS. I have several personal experience that go from robbery, theft, scamming to somebody dying (not a natural death) in a building we own. In all cases the police was extremely unprofessional. I am not saying these things unfounded. That's why reform of the police force was one of the promises of the ncpo , and sure the one they will never achieve ! Lozza
Just when you think the BIB couldn't have handled this any worse you read this gem: "As for the pair of stained pants found in Miller's luggage, the general admitted that the substance found on the clothing was not blood and that they belonged to Miller and the pair had been put in the victim's luggage by the first group of police officers" (italics added). Why on earth did the police pack the victim's bag? Did they think it was blood when they packed them? If this was a movie script it would be rejected as being too preposterous to believe. I sincerely hope the poor families of the victims are not reading any of this. And that the PM is! Was this a frame-up attempt by the BIB to blame Christopher Ware for the murder or are they just morons? this will haunt him forever another life messed up-threatened life imprisonment, death penalty.. sad. The trousers did have a lot of blood on them and had been in water and it diluted the stain..that piece of info is haunting me.

Traveller45
...maybe give Police a break, too. This is difficult work and it's always easier to criticize than to do better, especially with such a place full of transients. I keep hoping that Police don't tell us all they know. To be constructive, a cash prime promised by family and friends, if not indeed by UK government, might help things forward...

Jean Pierre Jacquot
Hopefully they have some reason to say they are confident, but time is rapidly slipping by. The Bangkok Post had a CCTV photo of what they called "the mystery man" yesterday so maybe they are making some findings on that front. Yes, but these idiots froze the bodies so can't establish anymore their exact time of death. Which has to match the mystery man on CCTV. Maybe he just discovered the bodies and run away in horror. If he is a migrant worker it is very understandable that he did not report his find. As a migrant worker your survival strategy is not to get involved in anything here in Thailand. rijit
regarding wares suspect rapid intended departure, in his and co' s defence given the info thats now coming out, which would have been really apparent to him straight away , that the thai cops politicians and media were almost willing or demanding it to be a westerner or suitable scrape goat tbh u can c why he wanted the fuc out of there asap. Mooner
Qoute "Police are now searching near by islands". Only now they have decided to search off Island? Ware was declared a suspect, however he left the island the day before the incident. Unfortunately his name was publicly announced by the police, which was a mistake. But I did not see and threats of life imprisonment or the death penalty made. 2. The trousers were NOT stained by blood. 3. Where in all of the reports and nonsense on TV was it mentioned ONCE that the trousers had been in water and diluted the stain, except in your post? Sounds like you are haunted by your rampant imagination. Get back on the medication, or off whatever substance you are on, if that is the issue. Plutojames88
Expect a mass exodus of Burmese, Laos and Cambodian workers from the Island. They know how this will end.So how to you ostensibly achieve several goals like galvanising Thai opinion against western morals, rid islands of the said above workers, and increase the idea ""Thai is good ""- ""Farang immoral and bad? "Yep , a little mystery murder with no Thai suspects and brutal execution that make Isis ones look humane, on Westerners who dare to venture a romance on their sacred sands near a statue of past Glorious leader. Anyone starting to think smiling authorities might be completely aware of the culprits? Poor grieving family . No answers . No real effort . spidermike007
I'de guess here, that if the cops don't get a tip off.....they may well be up the creek........ Hopefully, someone will come forward...... Unlikely. The cops on the island are feared and reviled by all except their criminal peers and island elite that openly control them. It would be dangerous for any normal islander to report any violent crime for fear of reprisals and that their name would be passed on to the offenders. I feel if all local police, govt were removed from the island immediately and never allowed to return, info closing this crime would become available within hours. If they brought in a few American or British detectives, this crime would probably be solved in 72 hours. Or even the top Bangkok guys. Competence my dear. That may be all that is required. Difficult to ask a group of men who have been extorting millions of baht out of the locals, and the foreigners for years, to do actual police work. Asking for 100,000 baht for possession of one joint, is alot easier than conducting a double murder investigation. Why do we have to do all this work? Our revenue has dropped by 90% since this crime took place. We do not have any time anymore to extort money. This is really boring work.

jimjams33
What they should have done was DNA swab tests from all the tourists staying on that beach (or at the very least all the people from the bar they were partying at)...its not to many i know the beach well (must be in the region of 1000) also take DNA swab tests from all the staff that work there too, bar staff hotel staff restaurant staff etc. Its probably too late now....but worth a try surely. After all this is a double murder! I really really hope that these scumbags are caught for the sake of the victims families, for the sake of tourists safety and for the sake of justice. Ulic
The attacks/deaths scream of a gang attack. TV members are one sided in understanding Thais tend to attack in this manner. So my suggestion is for police to focus on groups of Thais in the investigation, not friends and other tourists.
